Fieldays 2027, New Zealand's National Agricultural Fieldays, runs from Wednesday 16 to Saturday 19 June 2027 at Mystery Creek Events Centre near Hamilton, about 130 km and under 2 hours south of Auckland. Fieldays does not allow campervans or motorhomes to stay on site overnight, so campervan visitors book a powered site at a holiday park in Hamilton, Tamahere or Cambridge, all within about 15 minutes of the gates. In our live Auckland search for 14 to 21 June 2027, campervans started from NZ$30 a night, self-contained vans from NZ$39 and vans with a toilet and shower from NZ$70.
Which rental brands suit a Fieldays campervan trip?
All 16 brands in our live Auckland search for 14 to 21 June 2027 returned campervans, 75 vehicles in all: Spaceships, Escape Rentals, Jucy, Lucky Rentals, Happy Campers, Campervan Village, Eurocamper, Travellers Autobarn, Waka Campa, Mighty, Apollo, LyLo Road Trips, Britz, Star RV, Maui and Trekker Adventures. June is winter and the low season, so even large motorhomes cost far less than in summer. Because Fieldays has no overnight camping, you will spend your nights at a holiday park, which makes a self-contained van optional rather than essential.
- Budget sleeper vans: Spaceships, Escape, Jucy, Lucky Rentals and Happy Campers start from NZ$30 to NZ$42 a night for 2 to 3 berth vans with a bed and a basic kitchen. They suit a couple who will use holiday park bathrooms and kitchens.
- Compact self-contained vans: Escape, Campervan Village, Happy Campers, Lucky Rentals, Spaceships, Eurocamper and Travellers Autobarn offer self-contained 2 to 4 berth vans from NZ$39 to about NZ$80 a night. Pick one of these if you want the option of freedom camping before or after Fieldays.
- Toilet and shower on board: Lucky Rentals Rambler from NZ$70, Jucy Chaser from NZ$81 and Happy Campers Happy Summit from NZ$83, then Mighty, Apollo, Star RV, Britz, Eurocamper and Maui motorhomes from NZ$114 to NZ$192 a night. Worth it on a cold June night when the amenity block is a walk away.
- Families and groups: Jucy Chill'd Big Kahuna (sleeps 6) from NZ$99, Waka Campa Explorer Neo (sleeps 5) from NZ$112, and 6 berth motorhomes from Mighty (Big Six, NZ$136), Apollo (Euro Deluxe, NZ$157) and Maui (River, NZ$192).
- 4WD rooftop tents: Trekker Adventures had Hilux rooftop tent campers from NZ$206 a night. A rooftop tent is a cold choice for Waikato frosts, so most Fieldays visitors will be warmer in a van.
CRG has no Hamilton page, so the Auckland search is the one to use. Compare Auckland campervan hire for your own dates.
How much does campervan hire cost for Fieldays?
Prices are NZ$ per night from our live Auckland search on 19 October 2026 for a pickup on Monday 14 June 2027 and return on Monday 21 June 2027 (75 vehicles, NZ$30 to NZ$413 a night). Mid June is the New Zealand winter low season, so rates are well below summer levels, but Fieldays week fills Waikato accommodation, so book the van and your holiday park together.
- Budget 2 to 3 berth, no bathroom: NZ$30 (Spaceships Beta Original, on request), NZ$32 (Escape Standard, on request, and Jucy Crib), NZ$33 (Lucky Rentals Rodeo and Spaceships Dream Sleeper Mini) and NZ$42 (Happy Campers Happy Trail).
- Compact self-contained: NZ$39 (Escape, with toilet, on request), NZ$41 (Campervan Village Freedom Camping Aventus 2, on request), NZ$47 (Happy Scout), NZ$48 (Escape Plus, on request), NZ$53 (Lucky Rentals Rover, sleeps 4), NZ$54 (Spaceships Beta 2S), NZ$56 (Lucky Rentals Roadie), NZ$61 (Eurocamper Euro Vista), NZ$68 (Travellers Autobarn Chubby) and NZ$80 (Mighty HiLITE).
- Toilet, no full shower: NZ$65 (Waka Campa Explorer Saver, sleeps 4, outdoor shower), NZ$66 (Happy Horizon), NZ$69 (Jucy Condo, sleeps 4), NZ$85 (Travellers Autobarn Kuga), NZ$98 (Apollo Hitop) and NZ$105 (Britz Hitop).
- Toilet and shower, 2 to 3 berth: NZ$70 (Lucky Rentals Rambler), NZ$81 (Jucy Chaser), NZ$114 (Mighty Deuce), NZ$131 (Apollo Euro Tourer), NZ$134 (Star RV Polaris 2), NZ$141 (Britz Venturer) and NZ$167 (Maui Ultima).
- 4 to 6 berth: NZ$99 (Jucy Chill'd Big Kahuna, sleeps 6), NZ$109 (Britz Voyager), NZ$131 (Mighty Double Up), NZ$136 (Mighty Big Six, sleeps 6), NZ$143 (Apollo Euro Quest), NZ$157 (Britz Odyssey and Wanderer, Apollo Euro Deluxe), NZ$161 (Star RV Polaris 4, on request), NZ$187 (Maui Beach) and NZ$192 (Maui River, sleeps 6).
- 4WD rooftop tent: NZ$206 (Trekker Single Tent Hilux) to NZ$413 (Trekker 2020+ Defender).
What the nightly rate leaves out
- Insurance excess options, kilometre charges, one-way fees and extras such as bedding, heaters and kitchen kits. Some vans carry extra fees in the trip total, so compare the total as well as the nightly rate. We did not price these.
- Holiday park fees: you need somewhere to stay every night because Fieldays has no camping. Narrows Park in Tamahere lists NZ$15 to NZ$28 per adult; other parks quote on booking.
- Fieldays tickets, as listed on the official FAQ on 19 October 2026 (2027 prices not yet confirmed): adult one day NZ$36 online or NZ$42 at the gate, adult four day NZ$120 online or NZ$144 at the gate, child 5 to 14 NZ$18, under 5 free, family one day NZ$108 online. An online transaction fee applies.
Can you camp in a campervan at Fieldays?
No. The official Fieldays FAQ says campervans and motorhomes are not allowed to stay on site overnight at Mystery Creek. We also found no official campervan area, NZMCA park-over or event park and stay for Fieldays. Fieldays points visitors to accommodation in Hamilton, Cambridge and Te Awamutu, each about 15 minutes from the venue, so plan to spend each night at a holiday park and drive or bus in for the day.
Holiday parks near Mystery Creek
- Narrows Park Camping and Events, Tamahere: 442 Airport Road, the closest option at about 2 minutes from Mystery Creek and Hamilton Airport. A charitable rural park on 27 acres beside the Waikato River with powered sites, cabins and tent space, listed from NZ$15 to NZ$28 per adult. It also hosts groups, so call ahead to check space in Fieldays week.
- Hamilton City Holiday Park: 14 Ruakura Road, Hamilton, about 15 km from the venue and 2 km from the city centre. Powered sites on concrete and grass, a supermarket across the road, and a call-ahead request for vehicles 8 metres or longer. It is handy for the free Fieldays bus from the Hamilton Transport Centre.
- Cambridge TOP 10 Holiday Park: 32 Scott Street, Leamington, about 15 km from the venue. Powered sites up to 8 by 11 metres, non-powered sites and an on-site dump station. Bring your own camping RCD plug and lead, or ask your rental brand for one.
NZMCA parks and freedom camping
- NZMCA: the New Zealand Motor Caravan Association lets hirers join, and member-only NZMCA Parks cost NZ$5 per adult a night. Membership costs NZ$252 in the first year (NZ$150 joining fee plus NZ$102 annual fee), and your van must be certified self-contained, so it rarely pays for a single Fieldays trip.
- Freedom camping: on council land you need a certified self-contained vehicle, and each Waikato council sets its own sites and limits. Read the signs and the official freedom camping guidance, and never sleep in a Fieldays car park.
Winter camping in the Waikato
June is winter. NIWA's 1991 to 2020 averages for Hamilton show a mean daily high of about 15°C, a mean overnight low of 4.7°C and about eight ground frosts in the month. A powered site lets you run the van's electrics overnight. Hamilton City Holiday Park notes that any camper using power needs an up-to-date Electrical Warrant of Fitness, so ask your rental brand to confirm. Full visitor details are on the official Fieldays FAQs.
How do you get from Auckland to Fieldays in a campervan?
Fieldays is at Mystery Creek Events Centre, 125 Mystery Creek Road, Ōhaupō, about 15 minutes south of Hamilton CBD and 2 minutes from Hamilton Airport. Fieldays puts the drive from Auckland at just over 1.5 hours. Our route estimate is about 126 km from Auckland Airport and 138 km from central Auckland, so allow around 2 hours in a campervan with a stop.
The route from Auckland
- State Highway 1 south: the Southern Motorway and Waikato Expressway run almost all the way, past Pōkeno, Huntly and the eastern side of Hamilton.
- Tamahere interchange: the official Fieldays directions say to take the Tamahere off-ramp from SH1 and follow SH21 (Airport Road) to Gate A.
- From Hamilton: SH1 (Kahikatea Drive), right onto SH3 (Ohaupo Road), left onto SH21 (Airport Road), then right onto Mystery Creek Road for Gate 1.
- Traffic: more than 132,000 people came through the gates in 2026, and Fieldays warns of delays at peak times. Check the NZTA Waikato traffic dashboard and Mystery Creek's traffic updates before you leave, and aim to arrive early.
Parking a campervan at Fieldays
- General parking: free and open from 6am, with traffic management directing you to the best car park for your direction of travel. Free shuttles loop from the Orange and Blue car parks to the gates.
- No campervan area published: the official pages do not mention a separate campervan or motorhome day parking area, and VIP Parking is for passenger vehicles only. Car parks are on grass, and Fieldays has a plan for pulling out stuck vehicles, so a large motorhome on wet June grass is a risk.
- Leave the van at the park: free buses run from the Hamilton Transport Centre on Bryce Street to Gate 1 from 7am, and Hamilton city and regional Busit buses to the Transport Centre are free during Fieldays with a valid Fieldays ticket. Free Park and Ride buses also run from Te Awamutu i-SITE, The Base at Te Rapa and the Cambridge BMX Club.
Compare vans for the trip: Auckland campervan hire. Timetables are on the official Getting to Fieldays page.
An 8 day Fieldays campervan trip from Auckland
This plan matches the dates we searched, 14 to 21 June 2027, with three days at Fieldays and two Waikato side trips. Adjust it to your own hire dates.
Day 1, Monday 14 June: Auckland to Hamilton
Collect your van in Auckland, stock up and drive about 115 km south on SH1. Check in at Hamilton City Holiday Park or Narrows Park before dark, as June sunsets come early.
Day 2, Tuesday 15 June: Hamilton and the river
Visit Hamilton Gardens and walk the Waikato River paths, or drive about 46 km west to Raglan for the surf coast. Buy your Fieldays tickets online, which is cheaper than at the gate.
Day 3, Wednesday 16 June: Fieldays opening day
Leave the van at the park and take the free bus from the Hamilton Transport Centre, or drive in early. Gates are open 8am to 5pm.
Day 4, Thursday 17 June: Fieldays and Cambridge
Spend a second day at Mystery Creek, then move about 15 km to Cambridge TOP 10 Holiday Park in Leamington for two nights.
Day 5, Friday 18 June: Hobbiton or Fieldays
Drive about 37 km to the Hobbiton Movie Set near Matamata, or go back to Fieldays using the Cambridge Park and Ride from the BMX Club in Leamington.

Tour the glowworm caves in the morning, then head north towards Auckland and stop overnight in the north Waikato or south Auckland.
Day 8, Monday 21 June: return in Auckland
Empty the tanks, refuel and return the van. Check depot hours before you book flights.
Fieldays campervan tips
- Book your nights first: Fieldays does not allow campervans to stay on site, and Waikato accommodation fills fast in Fieldays week. Lock in a powered site at the same time as the van.
- Pack for frost: Hamilton averages a June low of 4.7°C and about eight ground frosts. Ask your brand about bedding and whether a heater is included, and book a powered site.
- Use the free buses: with a valid Fieldays ticket, Hamilton city and regional Busit buses to the Transport Centre and the shuttle on to Gate 1 are free, so the van can stay parked at the holiday park.
- Bring gumboots and a card: Mystery Creek is a large agricultural site, and Fieldays warns that not all areas are level or paved. There is no ATM on site and the gate does not take cash, only card or EFTPOS.
- Leave pets and bikes at home: animals other than guide and assistance dogs are not allowed, and pets left in vehicles will be asked to go home. Bikes, scooters and drones are also banned.
- Arrive early or late: parking opens at 6am and gates at 8am. Peak morning traffic on SH1 and SH21 can cause delays, so beat it or travel mid morning.
