  • Linden depot: El Monte RV and Road Bear RV share the Tremley Point Road depot, which both brands call 'New York', so look for that name when you book.
  • From EWR: Linden is about 20 minutes from Newark Airport by road, and Road Bear RV runs a free shuttle from listed airport hotels if booked 31 days ahead.
  • No RVs in Manhattan: all three brands keep their RVs out of Manhattan and propane-restricted tunnels, including the Holland Tunnel, so plan bridge routes around the city.

What's on around Linden and New Jersey

Summer at the Jersey Shore and a few big weekends fill campgrounds fast, so book your RV and sites early if your trip lines up with one.

May to Sep

Jersey Shore Summer Season

Beach towns from Atlantic City to Cape May

Most shore towns charge beach tags for ages 12 and up from Memorial Day weekend (late May) to Labor Day (6 September 2027), about US$8 to US$10 a day. Atlantic City and the Wildwoods stay free.

Jun

Soar and Shore Airshow

Beach and Boardwalk, Atlantic City

The free airshow returns over the beach from 4 to 6 June 2027, lineup to be announced. Watch from the sand or the Boardwalk, with show centre in front of Bally's.

Jul to Aug

New Jersey State Fair

Sussex County Fairgrounds, Augusta

The Sussex County Farm and Horse Show runs for nine days around the start of August, with livestock, horse shows and rides, about an hour north-west of Linden.

Oct

Cape May Victorian Weekend

Historic district, Cape May

House tours, architecture walks and trolley rides fill the Columbus Day long weekend each October. The 2026 event ran 9 to 12 October; check 2027 dates closer to the time.

Quick Event Tips for Linden Travellers

  • Book Summer Early: Shore campgrounds fill between Memorial Day and Labor Day, and big weekends like the Atlantic City airshow add to the rush, so lock in your RV and your sites together.
  • Leave the RV Outside the City: RVs from all three brands are barred from Manhattan and propane-restricted tunnels, so park up in New Jersey and take NJ Transit trains into New York.
  • Autumn Trips: Cruise America winterises RVs from about mid October, and El Monte RV and Road Bear RV from 31 October to 31 March, with water tanks drained, so check before booking an autumn trip.

Campgrounds and attractions around Linden

Where to stay with the RV in north and south Jersey, and the coast, mountains and cities worth a day out from Linden.

Holiday parks where you can stay with your campervan

Swartswood State Park, Newton

About 60 miles (97 km) north-west of Linden, this campground sits a short walk from 519-acre Swartswood Lake, where only electric motors are allowed, so it stays quiet. Wooded and grassy sites have a fire ring and picnic table, with showers, restrooms and drinking water nearby. Kayaks can be hired as conditions allow. Open 1 April to 31 October; no pets overnight, and check your RV's length when booking.

Worthington State Forest, Delaware Water Gap

About 70 miles (115 km) from Linden, off I-80 on historic Old Mine Road, this state forest campground has 78 sites along two miles of Delaware River frontage. Sites 29 to 82 take tents, travel trailers and motorhomes, with a picnic table and fire ring each, plus showers, flush toilets and drinking water. Mount Tammany and Sunfish Pond trails start nearby. No pets in the campground.

Ocean View Resort Campground, Cape May County

Midway between Atlantic City and Wildwood, about 121 miles (195 km) south of Linden, this family resort spreads over 180 wooded acres. Every site has 20/30 amp power, water, sewer and cable TV, and 40 pull-through sites suit bigger RVs. There is a freshwater lake with a sandy beach, a pool and splash pad, mini golf and a camp store. The lake and pool open in peak season only. Check-in is from 1pm.

Atsion Family Campground, Wharton State Forest

In the Pine Barrens about 77 miles (124 km) south of Linden, Atsion has 50 tent and trailer sites near Atsion Lake, open all year. Vehicles are limited to 22 feet, so it suits the smallest RVs only. Flush toilets, showers and a trailer dump station are a short walk away, and pet-friendly sites cost US$5 extra a night. Swim at the guarded Atsion beach from mid June to Labor Day, or drive on to historic Batsto Village.

Top attractions to build your trip around

Victorian houses lining Beach Avenue in Cape May behind a sandy beach with umbrellas and sunbathers, seen from the sea

Cape May and the Jersey Shore

About 139 miles (223 km) south of Linden, Cape May's Victorian houses face the beach along Beach Avenue. Climb the 199 steps of the 1859 Cape May Lighthouse in Cape May Point State Park (US$12 adults) for views over the bay and ocean. Cape May's daily beach tags cost US$10 in season, while the Wildwoods next door and Atlantic City's beaches are free.

The Delaware River flowing between two steep forested mountains at the Delaware Water Gap under a blue sky

Delaware Water Gap

About 70 miles (112 km) from Linden, the Delaware River cuts through the Kittatinny Ridge at the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area, which protects 40 miles of river. The climb up 1,527-foot Mount Tammany rewards you with a view over the Gap, and the Appalachian Trail passes through. There is no entrance fee, but some beaches and boat launches charge amenity fees in season.

Independence Hall and its clock tower behind the lawns of Independence Mall, with city towers rising behind

Philadelphia

About 78 miles (125 km) south-west of Linden, Independence National Historical Park holds Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell Center. Independence Hall tickets are free but timed: reserve up to 30 days ahead for a US$1 fee and arrive 30 to 45 minutes early for security. Old City's streets are tight for an RV, so park outside the centre and take public transport in.

A visitor in a checked coat looking through a viewer at the Statue of Liberty across the harbour from Liberty State Park

New York City by Train

Leave the RV in New Jersey: NJ Transit trains run from Linden to New York Penn Station in about 40 minutes. Liberty State Park in Jersey City, about 15 miles (24 km) from Linden with no entrance fee, faces the Statue of Liberty, and Statue City Cruises ferries run from the park to Liberty and Ellis Islands.

I recently booked a campervan through this company. It was my first time booking an RV and I had a lot of questions & fears going into booking a vehicle that was worth so much & really needed to understand how the process works. I called the company & was given detailed information on what to expect & was guided through the process. They even mentioned I could call back with any further questions to ensure I was happy & comfortable with my decision. I rented the vehicle for 14 days and drove from Brisbane to Jindabyne to go Skiing. I would definitely book through this company again.

Linden Campervan Hire Itineraries

Read our guide to the best apps for a USA campervan trip →

Jersey Shore, Washington DC & Shenandoah Loop (21 Days)

+

Days 1-2: Linden & Sandy Hook

+
−

Day 1: Collect your RV, allowing time for paperwork and the orientation walkthrough, then stock up at a supermarket before leaving town. Drive about 34 miles (55 km) south to Turkey Swamp Park near Freehold, a Monmouth County park with sites around a lake that have water and electric hookups, and book three nights there.

Day 2: Drive about 35 miles (56 km) to Sandy Hook, part of Gateway National Recreation Area, for ocean beaches, the old Fort Hancock buildings and Sandy Hook Lighthouse. Beach parking is charged from Memorial Day to Labor Day and the park is cashless. In the afternoon, head 19 miles (30 km) south to walk the Asbury Park boardwalk.

Days 3-4: Island Beach & Long Beach Island

+
−

Day 3: Drive about 27 miles (43 km) to Island Beach State Park, a long strip of undeveloped dunes and ocean beach on Barnegat Bay. Non-residents pay a higher vehicle fee in summer, and the gates close once the car parks fill on hot weekends, so arrive early. Swim at the lifeguarded beach or walk the dune trails, then return to Turkey Swamp.

Day 4: Drive about 42 miles (68 km) around Barnegat Bay to Long Beach Island and climb Barnegat Lighthouse, known locally as 'Old Barney', for views along the coast. Continue about 27 miles (44 km) inland to Bass River State Forest in the Pine Barrens and camp near Lake Absegami. Wildfire risk here peaks in spring, so check fire rules before lighting a campfire.

Days 5-6: Pine Barrens & Cape May

+
−

Day 5: Drive about 14 miles (22 km) to Batsto Village in Wharton State Forest, a restored iron and glassmaking village from the 18th and 19th centuries, with a vehicle fee in summer. Most of the forest's tracks are soft sand, so stay on paved roads. Then head about 62 miles (100 km) south to Cape May and book two nights at an RV park near town.

Day 6: Explore Cape May's Victorian streets and pedestrian mall, then climb Cape May Lighthouse and walk the trails at Cape May Point State Park, a top spot for migrating birds and monarch butterflies in autumn. Finish at Sunset Beach, where the wreck of a concrete ship sits just offshore and the sun sets over Delaware Bay.

Days 7-8: Cape May-Lewes Ferry & Delaware Beaches

+
−

Day 7: Drive about 6 miles (10 km) to the terminal for the Cape May-Lewes Ferry, an 85-minute, 17-mile (27 km) crossing of Delaware Bay. Book ahead, as vehicles over 20 ft are priced by length and must be under 13 ft 6 in high. In Lewes, check in for two nights at Cape Henlopen State Park, whose campground has water and electric hookups.

Day 8: Drive about 10 miles (17 km) south to Rehoboth Beach for its boardwalk, beach and outlet shopping. Back at Cape Henlopen, climb one of the Second World War observation towers at Fort Miles, walk the Gordons Pond trail or cycle the park's paved paths, then watch the sunset from the bay beach.

Days 9-10: Annapolis & Washington DC

+
−

Day 9: Drive about 92 miles (149 km) west across Delaware and Maryland, crossing the Chesapeake Bay Bridge, a toll road, to Annapolis. Walk the historic harbour around City Dock and the streets of Maryland's capital, then drive about 27 miles (43 km) to Greenbelt Park, a National Park Service campground near Washington DC, and book three nights on recreation.gov.

Day 10: Greenbelt Park has no hookups, but it has hot showers and a dump station, and its nearest entrance is about 1.5 miles (2.4 km) from the College Park-U of Md Metro station. Leave the RV at camp and ride the Metro into the city for the National Mall, the Lincoln Memorial and the free Smithsonian museums.

Days 11-12: Washington DC & Front Royal

+
−

Day 11: Spend another day in the city by Metro, touring the US Capitol, the Library of Congress or Arlington National Cemetery across the Potomac. The Smithsonian's National Air and Space Museum and National Museum of American History are both free, though some exhibits and tours need timed passes, so check before you go.

Day 12: Drive about 85 miles (136 km) west to Front Royal, the northern entrance to Shenandoah National Park, and buy the US$30 seven-day vehicle pass. Skyline Drive's limit is 35 mph (56 km/h) in most places, so allow about an hour for the 24 miles (39 km) to Mathews Arm Campground, which opens from late April.

Days 13-14: Skyline Drive & Luray Caverns

+
−

Day 13: Hike to Overall Run Falls from Mathews Arm, then drive about 11 miles (17 km) south to Thornton Gap and leave Skyline Drive on US 211. Just past the gap, Marys Rock Tunnel has a 12 ft 8 in clearance, and Cruise America does not allow its vans through tunnels. Tour Luray Caverns, about 12 miles (19 km) on, and stay near Luray.

Day 14: Drive about 30 miles (48 km) south through the Shenandoah Valley on US 340, then climb back onto Skyline Drive at Swift Run Gap and head 15 miles (25 km) north to Big Meadows. Its campground is reservation-only on recreation.gov, so book two nights well ahead. Walk down to Dark Hollow Falls in the late afternoon.

Days 15-16: Big Meadows & the Blue Ridge Parkway

+
−

Day 15: Watch for deer in the big meadow at dawn, then drive about 10 miles (16 km) north to hike Stony Man for views over the Shenandoah Valley. Black bears live in the park, so lock food away in the RV. Back at Big Meadows, join a ranger program or watch the sunset from the lodge's terrace.

Day 16: Drive Skyline Drive's southern half, about 56 miles (90 km), to Rockfish Gap, where the free Blue Ridge Parkway begins. Continue about 6 miles (10 km) to Humpback Rocks for a short, steep hike and a restored mountain farm, then turn back and drive about 23 miles (37 km) to an RV park near Staunton.

Days 17-18: Gettysburg

+
−

Day 17: Drive about 177 miles (285 km) north up Interstate 81 through the Shenandoah Valley and into Pennsylvania, the trip's longest day. Book two nights at one of the RV parks around Gettysburg, and pick up supplies on the way, as you have now left the mountains behind.

Day 18: The Gettysburg National Military Park battlefield and visitor centre are free. Tickets for the film, the Cyclorama painting and the museum cost US$20.75 for adults. Then follow the self-guided auto tour of the battlefield in the RV, stopping at Little Round Top and the site of Pickett's Charge.

Days 19-21: Amish Country, Philadelphia & Linden

+
−

Day 19: Drive about 66 miles (106 km) east to Lancaster County, home to Amish farms and villages such as Bird-in-Hand and Intercourse. Slow down and give horse-drawn buggies plenty of room on country roads, buy fresh produce at roadside stands, and stay at an RV park nearby.

Day 20: Drive about 64 miles (103 km) to an RV park near Philadelphia with a train link into Center City. See the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall, which needs a free timed ticket from March to December, booked on recreation.gov for a US$1 fee. Finish with a cheesesteak in South Philadelphia.

Day 21: Drive about 75 miles (121 km) back to Linden on the New Jersey Turnpike, leaving early so you can return the RV in the morning. Many depots take returns before late morning, and empty holding tanks avoid a dump charge.

Delaware Water Gap, Pine Barrens & Cape May Loop (14 Days)

+

Day 1: Linden to the Delaware Water Gap

+
−

Day 1: Collect your RV and drive about 72 miles (115 km) west on the interstates to the Delaware Water Gap, where the river cuts through the Kittatinny Ridge. Continue about 25 miles (40 km) north on US 209 to Dingmans Campground on the Pennsylvania side, which has sites with water and electric hookups, and book three nights.

Days 2-3: Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area

+
−

Day 2: Walk the boardwalk to Silverthread and Dingmans falls. Their car park is closed to RVs, buses and trailers on weekends and holidays, so come on a weekday. Later, drive about 10 miles (16 km) north to Raymondskill Falls, or hire a canoe or kayak from an outfitter for a gentle paddle on the Delaware River.

Day 3: Drive back to the Gap for the steep, rocky Red Dot Trail up Mount Tammany, with views down over the river and the Pennsylvania cliffs. From May to mid-October, some beaches and river access points charge a US$10 daily vehicle fee, which the America the Beautiful pass does not cover.

Day 4: Lambertville & New Hope

+
−

Day 4: Drive about 78 miles (125 km) south along the Delaware to Lambertville and walk across the old bridge to New Hope, Pennsylvania, for galleries, cafes and river views. In the afternoon, continue about 74 miles (119 km) to Bass River State Forest in the Pine Barrens, a long driving day, and book three nights near Lake Absegami.

Days 5-6: The Pine Barrens

+
−

Day 5: Drive about 14 miles (22 km) to Batsto Village in Wharton State Forest, a restored 18th and 19th century iron and glassmaking village with a mansion, a working sawmill and lakeside trails. Most of the forest's tracks are soft sand, so explore them on foot or by bike rather than in the RV.

Day 6: Hire a canoe or kayak from a local outfitter for a paddle down the tea-coloured Wading or Mullica rivers, or swim at Lake Absegami's lifeguarded beach in summer. The Pine Barrens' wildfire season peaks in spring, so check current fire restrictions before lighting a campfire.

Day 7: Atlantic City to Cape May

+
−

Day 7: Drive about 27 miles (44 km) to Atlantic City for a walk along its famous boardwalk, then continue about 48 miles (77 km) down the Garden State Parkway to Cape May. Book three nights at an RV park near town, as Cape May's streets are narrow and parking for big vehicles is scarce.

Days 8-9: Cape May & Wildwood

+
−

Day 8: Leave the RV at camp and cycle or take a trolley tour through Cape May's Victorian streets. Climb Cape May Lighthouse, walk the trails at Cape May Point State Park, famous for autumn bird and monarch butterfly migrations, and watch the sunset over Delaware Bay from Sunset Beach.

Day 9: Drive about 10 miles (15 km) north to Wildwood for its wide beaches and boardwalk amusement piers. Alternatively, ride the Cape May-Lewes Ferry as a foot passenger for a day in Lewes, Delaware, an 85-minute crossing each way, and leave the RV behind.

Day 10: Long Beach Island

+
−

Day 10: Drive about 82 miles (132 km) north to Long Beach Island and climb Barnegat Lighthouse, known as 'Old Barney', then walk the jetty at its foot. Head about 27 miles (44 km) inland to spend the night back at Bass River State Forest, as camping on the island itself is limited.

Day 11: Island Beach State Park

+
−

Day 11: Drive about 36 miles (59 km) to Island Beach State Park and spend the day on its undeveloped ocean beach and bay-side trails. Arrive early on summer weekends, when non-residents pay a higher vehicle fee and the gates shut once car parks fill. Then drive about 27 miles (43 km) to Turkey Swamp Park near Freehold for three nights.

Days 12-13: Sandy Hook & Asbury Park

+
−

Day 12: Drive about 35 miles (56 km) to Sandy Hook in Gateway National Recreation Area for wide ocean beaches, the brick buildings of Fort Hancock and Sandy Hook Lighthouse. On clear days, you can see the Manhattan skyline across the bay. Beach parking is charged in summer and paid by card only.

Day 13: Drive about 20 miles (32 km) to Asbury Park, walk its boardwalk and look inside the grand Convention Hall, then stroll south into Ocean Grove, a Victorian seaside town with a summer tent colony. Return to Turkey Swamp for a final night, and hire a paddle boat or kayak on its lake if it's open.

Day 14: Back to Linden

+
−

Day 14: Drive about 34 miles (55 km) back to Linden and return the RV in the morning with empty holding tanks. Then leave the driving behind and take an NJ Transit train from Linden station, about 40 minutes to New York Penn Station, for an afternoon in Manhattan.

Jersey Shore & Cape May Round Trip (7 Days)

+

Days 1-2: Linden, Sandy Hook & Asbury Park

+
−

Day 1: Collect your RV, stock up at a supermarket and drive about 34 miles (55 km) south to Turkey Swamp Park near Freehold, where sites have water and electric hookups. Book two nights, and if you arrive early, take a walk around the park's lake before dinner.

Day 2: Drive about 35 miles (56 km) to Sandy Hook in Gateway National Recreation Area for ocean beaches, Fort Hancock and Sandy Hook Lighthouse, paying for beach parking by card in summer. In the afternoon, head 19 miles (30 km) south to walk the Asbury Park boardwalk, then return to camp.

Days 3-5: Island Beach & Cape May

+

Day 3: Drive about 27 miles (43 km) to Island Beach State Park for a morning on its undeveloped beach, arriving early in summer, when the gates close once car parks fill. Then drive about 92 miles (148 km) down the Garden State Parkway to Cape May and book three nights at an RV park near town.

Day 4: Explore Cape May's Victorian streets by bike or trolley tour, climb Cape May Lighthouse and walk the trails at Cape May Point State Park. In the evening, watch the sun set over Delaware Bay from Sunset Beach, where the wreck of a concrete ship sits just offshore.

Day 5: Spend a day at Wildwood's wide beaches and boardwalk piers, about 10 miles (15 km) north. Or ride the Cape May-Lewes Ferry as a foot passenger, an 85-minute crossing each way, for a day in Lewes, Delaware, and a walk on the beach at Cape Henlopen State Park.

Day 6: Drive about 63 miles (101 km) north to Batsto Village in Wharton State Forest, a restored iron and glassmaking village in the heart of the Pine Barrens. Walk the lakeside trails, then drive about 14 miles (22 km) to Bass River State Forest and camp near Lake Absegami.

Day 7: Drive about 83 miles (133 km) back to Linden on the Garden State Parkway, leaving early to return the RV in the morning. Empty the holding tanks at the forest's dump station before you go, and allow extra time on summer Sundays, when shore traffic heads north.

Essential Linden & New Jersey Driving Tips

💳 Turnpike & Parkway Tolls

The New Jersey Turnpike and Garden State Parkway both charge tolls, and the Atlantic City Expressway has gone cashless, billing drivers without E-ZPass by mail at a higher rate. A motorhome can pay more than a car on some roads. Ask your rental company how tolls on its vans are paid before you set off.

🚆 See New York by Train

Hire RVs are barred from Manhattan, Cruise America bans all underground or underwater tunnels, and El Monte RV and Road Bear RV rule out the Holland Tunnel. Leave the RV at camp and take an NJ Transit train from Linden station, about 40 minutes to New York Penn Station.

🏖️ Summer Shore Traffic

On summer weekends, the Garden State Parkway clogs with traffic heading to the Jersey Shore on Friday afternoons and back north on Sundays. Travel midweek where you can, and book shore campgrounds and the Cape May-Lewes Ferry early for July and August, when Island Beach State Park closes its gates once full.

First Time Hiring a Campervan in New Jersey?

🚦 US & New Jersey Road Rules

Drive on the right and overtake on the left. You can turn right on a red light after a full stop unless a sign says no, and at four-way stops, drivers go in the order they arrive. Stop for a school bus with red lights flashing unless a median divides the road. Many New Jersey roads use 'jughandle' ramps on the right for left turns.

⛽ No Self-Serve Fuel

New Jersey is the only US state where you cannot pump your own fuel: an attendant fills the tank for you, so stay in the van and tell them the fuel type and amount. Most hire motorhomes run on petrol, called gas in the US. Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland and Virginia are self-serve.

🏕️ Where to Stay Overnight

New Jersey has no BLM land for free camping, and many towns ban overnight RV parking on streets. Some Walmart stores allow a night with the manager's permission where local laws allow it, but always ask first. Book state forest sites on camping.nj.gov, and national park campgrounds on recreation.gov.

🚰 Dump Stations & Propane

Empty the grey and black water tanks every few days at a campground dump station, such as those at Turkey Swamp Park and the Bass River and Belleplain state forests. Return the van with empty tanks to avoid a dump charge (up to US$100 with Cruise America), and ask depot staff for the nearest propane refill.

Linden Campervan Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Answers to common questions about hiring a campervan near Linden, from where to collect a van and New Jersey's tolls to Jersey Shore camping, getting into New York without the RV, mileage charges and winter hire.

How much does it cost to hire a campervan near Linden?

In our live searches for 14 day hires from New York East (Bay Shore, Long Island), Cruise America motorhomes cost about US$72 to US$78 a night in October 2027 and US$176 to US$219 in July. El Monte RV and Road Bear RV hire from Linden itself, so compare live prices from all brands for your dates. Mileage and kits cost extra with all three brands.

Is there a campervan depot in Linden, and can I book it?

Yes. El Monte RV and Road Bear RV share a depot at 3401 Tremley Point Road in Linden, about 9 miles (14 km) from Newark Airport and 2 miles (3 km) from Linden station, and both brands call it 'New York'. It opens Monday to Saturday from April to September, with shorter weekday hours from October to March, and closes on Sundays and holidays.

Where is the nearest RV depot I can book from Linden?

The El Monte RV and Road Bear RV depot on Tremley Point Road is in Linden itself. Cruise America's option is New York East, which appears to be its centre at 1490 Sunrise Highway, Bay Shore, on Long Island, about 61 miles (98 km) from Linden. Hire RVs can't enter Manhattan, so drive from Long Island via the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge and Staten Island.

When is the best time to hire a campervan near Linden?

Late May to mid-October is the main season, with beaches, boardwalks and campgrounds open and July highs averaging about 31°C at nearby Newark Airport. September is a sweet spot, with warm seas and quieter beaches after Labor Day. Cruise America winterises vans in cold areas from about mid-October, and El Monte RV and Road Bear RV from 31 October to 31 March, so water systems are drained and most campgrounds close.

How many days do I need for an RV trip from Linden?

Seven days covers Sandy Hook, Island Beach State Park and Cape May at an easy pace. Allow about 14 days to add the Delaware Water Gap and the Pine Barrens, and around 21 days for a loop south via the Cape May-Lewes Ferry to Washington DC, Shenandoah National Park and Gettysburg. Keep most driving days to two or three hours, as Skyline Drive's limit is 35 mph (56 km/h).

Where can I camp on the Jersey Shore in an RV?

Island Beach State Park is for day visits only, so most RV travellers stay inland. Turkey Swamp Park near Freehold has sites with water and electric hookups, and Bass River and Belleplain state forests take RVs, booked on camping.nj.gov. Near Cape May, private RV parks fill fast in summer. Check height limits too: Cheesequake State Park's campground has an 11 ft limit.

How do I get into New York City without the RV?

Take the train. RVs from all three brands are barred from Manhattan and propane-restricted tunnels, and parking a motorhome in the city is close to impossible anyway. NJ Transit trains run from Linden station to New York Penn Station in about 40 minutes, and from Aberdeen-Matawan on the North Jersey Coast Line if you are staying near the shore.

Do I have to pay tolls in a hire RV in New Jersey?

Often, yes. The New Jersey Turnpike and Garden State Parkway charge tolls, and the Atlantic City Expressway is cashless, billing drivers without E-ZPass by mail at a higher rate. A motorhome can pay more than a car, and the Cape May-Lewes Ferry prices vehicles over 20 ft by length. Ask your rental company how tolls on its vans are billed before you set off.

Can Australians drive a hire RV in New Jersey on their licence?

Yes, with an International Driving Permit. New Jersey's Motor Vehicle Commission lets visitors drive for up to a year on a foreign licence if it is accompanied by an International Driving Permit issued in their country of residence, so get one in Australia before you fly. All three brands also need your physical licence, as temporary and digital licences are not accepted.

What is the minimum age to hire an RV near Linden?

Cruise America, El Monte RV and Road Bear RV all require every driver to be at least 21, with a valid licence and a credit card in the main renter's name. All drivers must be at the pick-up to sign the rental agreement, and El Monte RV and Road Bear RV take a security deposit of at least US$1,500. You don't need a special licence class to drive these motorhomes.

What insurance options are available for RV hire near Linden?

With Cruise America, you are responsible for damage to the motorhome up to US$3,000 per incident; its optional Zero Damage Plan, which is not insurance, cuts that to zero for US$24.95 a day, with exclusions such as interior and overhead damage. El Monte RV and Road Bear RV sell VIP cover at US$16 a night, cutting your damage liability to US$1,500, or VIP Plus to cut it to zero. Check your travel insurance too.

Are miles included in RV hire near Linden?

No. Cruise America charges an estimated mileage fee upfront at 39 US cents a mile, based on 100 miles (160 km) a night, and refunds unused miles; its Half Price Mileage Deal cuts that to 19 cents on round trips departing by 31 October 2027. El Monte RV sells 100-mile packs from US$37 and Road Bear RV from US$45. Kits cost extra too.

Where can I refill propane and empty the tanks near Linden?

The depot staff can point you to the nearest propane refill and dump station when you collect the van. Turkey Swamp Park and the Bass River and Belleplain state forests have dump stations for campers, and Greenbelt Park and Big Meadows have them further south. Return the van with empty holding tanks to avoid a dump charge, which is up to US$100 with Cruise America.

Can I take my dog in a hire RV from Linden?

Yes with Cruise America or El Monte RV, which both accept pets, though cleaning fees apply if the motorhome comes back dirty (up to US$250 with Cruise America). Road Bear RV doesn't allow pets. Many Jersey Shore beaches ban dogs in summer, and New Jersey state forest campgrounds allow pets only on some sites, so book a pet-friendly site.

Can I take a hire RV on the Cape May-Lewes Ferry?

Yes. The ferry carries RVs across Delaware Bay between Cape May and Lewes, Delaware, in about 85 minutes. Vehicles over 20 ft are priced by length, rounded up to the nearest foot, and must be under 13 ft 6 in high, so book ahead with your van's exact length. It saves a long drive around through Wilmington on the way to Washington DC.

Can I hire an RV near Linden in winter?

Yes, but expect a dry van. Cruise America winterises its motorhomes in cold areas from about mid-October to late March, and El Monte RV and Road Bear RV winterise their Linden vans from 31 October to 31 March, so the sink, shower and toilet can't be used. Freeze damage is your responsibility, Newark averages about 80 cm of snow a year, and most campgrounds close.
