Shambhala Music Festival 2027 runs from Friday 23 to Monday 26 July at the Salmo River Ranch near Salmo, British Columbia, about 660 km (410 miles) by road from the Cruise Canada depot in Delta, Vancouver, and 571 km (355 miles) from Calgary. Shambhala camping in an RV means a Vehicle Pass bought at the gate for the Starlight or Sunshine zones, with no power, no generators and a higher price for anything over 20 feet long. In our live search for 19 to 29 July 2027, Cruise Canada motorhomes from Vancouver start at C$298 a night (C$260 from Calgary) before kilometre charges, and 2027 tickets are already sold out, so only book a van once you hold a ticket.

Which rental brands suit Shambhala?

One brand returned vans in our live searches for Vancouver and Calgary: Cruise Canada (the Canadian arm of Cruise America). It offers four motorhomes from its depots at 7731 Vantage Way in Delta (Vancouver) and 2980 26th Street NE in Calgary: the Ultra Compact 18 ft (sleeps 2), Compact 21 ft (sleeps 4), Standard 25 ft (sleeps 5) and Large 30 ft (sleeps 7). All four have a toilet, shower and fridge. CanaDream, the other big Canadian brand, returned no vehicles for these dates, so we cannot offer it for Shambhala right now.

Which motorhome fits the Shambhala rules?

  • The 20 foot line: Shambhala charges a higher Oversized Vehicle Pass for any vehicle over 20 feet in total length. Cruise America lists the Ultra Compact at 19.6 ft (5.94 m), so it is the only one of the four under the line. The Compact is listed at 20.5 ft, the Standard at 25 ft and the Large at 30 ft, so expect to pay the oversized rate for those.
  • No power on site: the festival bans all generators, including those built into RVs, and supplies no public power outside ShambhaLodging. The Ultra Compact has no generator and its air conditioner, furnace and water heater only work when plugged into power, so at Shambhala it runs on its house battery alone. The Compact, Standard and Large have a propane and 12 volt furnace, which suits cold mountain nights better. Only the Large has a generator in Canada, and you cannot run it at the festival.
  • Tank sizes matter: Starlight and Sunshine have no listed dump or water hook-ups, so you live off your tanks for up to a week. The Ultra Compact holds 31 gallons (141 L) of fresh water and an 11 gallon (50 L) sewage tank, while the Standard and Large carry 40 gallons (151 L) of fresh water and a sewage tank of about 25 gallons (93 to 95 L).
  • Cancellations: Cruise America says that for areas where special events such as music festivals occur, cancelling within 45 days of pick-up forfeits your reservation down payment. It does not name Shambhala, so ask before you book.
  • One-way hire: Cruise Canada offers one-ways between most of its centres by advance reservation, with drop fees. A Vancouver to Calgary one-way for July 2027 showed about C$800 more than a return hire in our 18 October 2026 search.

Compare these vehicles for your dates on our Vancouver motorhome and campervan page or our Calgary page.

What does a Shambhala RV rental cost?

Live prices from the Campervan Rental Guide search for pick-up on Monday 19 July 2027 and return on Thursday 29 July 2027 (10 nights), searched on 19 October 2026. Prices are Canadian dollars per night, with the total for 10 nights.

  • Large 30 ft (sleeps 7): C$381.35 a night, C$3,880.65 total

  • Ultra Compact 18 ft (sleeps 2): C$259.80 a night, C$2,660.97 total
  • Compact 21 ft (sleeps 4): C$267.53 a night, C$2,738.24 total
  • Standard 25 ft (sleeps 5): C$356.17 a night, C$3,624.62 total
  • Large 30 ft (sleeps 7): C$376.64 a night, C$3,829.30 total

For the smaller vans, Calgary was the cheaper start for these dates and is about 90 km closer to the festival.

What is not in those prices

  • Kilometres: Cruise America charges Canadian rentals for an estimated 160 km per night at 39 cents per kilometre, collected up front, with unused kilometres refunded and extra ones charged at return. The page does not state the currency. The Vancouver trip plan below covers about 1,330 km, so budget roughly 520 dollars at that rate. The up-front estimate for 10 nights is 1,600 km, with the difference refunded. A Half Price Mileage Deal (promo code FRDM) is listed for departures through 31 October 2027.
  • Vehicle Pass: paid at the Shambhala gate by card. 2027 prices are not yet published. In 2025 the festival charged C$129 (regular) or C$210 (oversized) per vehicle in Starlight, and C$89 or C$169 in Sunshine.
  • Early Entry: charged per person at the gate if you arrive before Friday. 2027 prices are to be announced. In 2025 it was C$210 per person from Tuesday, C$150 from Wednesday and C$90 from Thursday.
  • Festival tickets: General Admission for 2027 was C$649.95 plus tax and fees (Early Bird C$629.95), and it is sold out.
  • Kits and extras: a Personal Kit is listed at 75 dollars per person and a Vehicle Provisioning Kit at 125 dollars per vehicle, currency not stated. A holding tank not emptied before return can add a dump charge of up to 100 dollars.

Shambhala camping: RVs, vehicle passes and rules

Every Shambhala General Admission ticket includes free tent camping in the Metta, Starlight or Sunshine zones and free parking. To sleep in a motorhome you need a paid Vehicle Pass, or a ShambhaLodging RV site. The details below are from the official Tickets and Camping page and FAQ, checked on 19 October 2026. 2027 vehicle prices have not been published yet.

Vehicle camping in Starlight and Sunshine

  • How to get a pass: Vehicle Passes are sold at the gate on arrival, first come first served. You cannot buy them in advance, and the gate takes credit or debit cards only, no cash.
  • Starlight: the central zone, close to the action, for camperized vehicles only (a vehicle or trailer with a permanent bed, such as an RV). It fills quickly with early entry campers.
  • Sunshine: at the top of the festival site, for camping in or beside your vehicle. The festival suggests it if you plan to arrive after the early entry period.
  • Metta: tent only. No vehicles or vehicle camping.
  • Regular or Oversized: any vehicle over 20 feet in total length is oversized, and if you tow a trailer the combined length counts. 2025 prices were C$129 and C$210 in Starlight, C$89 and C$169 in Sunshine, per vehicle.
  • No sites, no power: the free zones have no marked or reserved sites and no power. Generators, including built-in RV generators, are banned, and there is no public electricity. Phones can be charged at the General Store.
  • Water: free filtered drinking water is available at refill stations on site. The festival does not list a dump station for Starlight or Sunshine, so arrive with empty holding tanks.

Early arrival and leaving

  • Early Entry: the gates open on Tuesday 20 July at 6:00 AM. Early Entry is bought per person at the gate: camping zones open from 6:00 AM Tuesday, 8:00 AM Wednesday or 8:00 AM Thursday. Tuesday is the best chance at the most wanted spots. General Admission starts at 8:00 AM on Friday 23 July.
  • Wait times: the festival says the queue can take minutes or several hours. Carry at least 4 litres of water per person, food and sun protection.
  • Leaving: you can stay on Monday night and must leave by 5:00 PM on Tuesday 27 July.
  • Re-entry: a per person re-entry fee applies if you leave and come back. The 2027 amount is to be announced.

Powered RV sites (ShambhaLodging)

The festival's ShambhaLodging packages are the only way to get power, water and a sani-dump. They do not include festival entry, and the FAQ says 2027 lodging is sold out, with a waitlist.

  • Central Park: beside Downtown, 15 by 50 foot site, 30 amp power, freshwater refills and sani-dump, C$3,499.95 plus tax and fees.
  • Farmview Hill: in the middle of Starlight, 17 by 44 foot site, same services, C$3,349 plus tax and fees.
  • Riverside RV Site: by the front gate with a private beach, 40 by 20 foot site, same services, C$3,499 plus tax and fees.
  • Riverside Single Campsite: 20 by 35 foot site for a tent or RV, no power, C$1,899 (C$1,599 in Riverside North).

Power at Central Park and Farmview Hill ends at 12 PM on Monday. Each package includes express lane entry for one vehicle and waived early entry fees for two people.

Rules that affect RV campers

  • Fire: no campfires, candles, charcoal or propane BBQs, propane heaters or propane fire pits. Propane camp stoves are allowed if you watch them.
  • Banned: alcohol, glass, pets (registered service animals only), drones and jerry cans of fuel. Every vehicle is searched.
  • Age: Shambhala is 19 and over, with government photo ID checked at the gate.
  • Cashless: there are no ATMs. Bring cards for vehicle passes, early entry, showers and food.

Getting from Vancouver or Calgary to Shambhala

The Salmo River Ranch is at 7790 Highway 3, Salmo, BC, reached by a dirt road off the Crowsnest Highway (Highway 3) about 12 km from the town of Salmo. Both pick-up cities are a long mountain drive, so plan two or three days each way.

  • From the Cruise Canada depot in Delta (Vancouver): about 660 km (410 miles), around 9 hours of driving without stops. Take Highway 17 and Highway 1 to Hope, then the Crowsnest Highway east for about 470 km through Manning Park, Princeton, Osoyoos, Grand Forks, Christina Lake and Castlegar. The road climbs over Allison Pass (1,342 m) in Manning Park, up Anarchist Mountain east of Osoyoos and over Bonanza Pass (1,535 m) west of Castlegar, with long, steep grades.
  • From Vancouver airport (YVR): about 675 km (420 miles). The Delta depot is about 22 km from the airport and Cruise Canada does not offer airport transfers.
  • From the Cruise Canada depot in Calgary: about 571 km (355 miles), around 7 hours 40 minutes. Head south on Highway 2 and Highway 22, then west on the Crowsnest Highway through the Crowsnest Pass, Fernie, Cranbrook and Creston, and over Kootenay Pass (1,775 m) to Salmo. Kootenay Pass is one of the highest year-round highway passes in Canada and closes at times for bad weather and clearing.
  • Fuel and supplies: the nearest fuel, groceries and restaurants are in Salmo, about 12 km away, with a bigger choice in Nelson, 47 km away. Fill the tank before you enter, because the festival asks you to have enough fuel to leave on Monday.
  • Entry: the festival will post separate entrances for westbound and eastbound traffic and vehicle intake times closer to 2027. No U-turns on the highway, and expect RCMP roadblocks around Salmo. Rest stops are monitored and not for overnight stays.
  • From the USA: the Nelway border crossing is 19 km from the festival site. Canadian-registered Cruise Canada RVs may enter the US and return.
  • No driving? Official one-way shuttles run from Vancouver, Calgary, Kelowna and Spokane. The nearest airports are Trail (43 km) and Castlegar (44 km).

Wildfire season on Highway 3

Shambhala falls in the height of the BC summer. The festival says the farm is extremely dry and provincial fire bans are regularly in effect, and tickets are not refunded if the event is cut short or cancelled for forest fire. Wildfires and smoke can close sections of the Crowsnest Highway with little notice, and a detour through the mountains can add hours. Check DriveBC for road closures and the BC Wildfire Service for fires and bans before each driving day, and keep a day of slack in your plan.

Distances and drive times are free-flow estimates from OSRM. Read the festival's Plan Your Journey page before you go.

A 10 night Shambhala road trip from Vancouver

This plan matches our live search: pick up Monday 19 July, return Thursday 29 July 2027. Cruise Canada centres are closed on Sundays, pick-up is normally 1 PM to 4 PM and drop-off 9 AM to 11 AM. Book provincial park campgrounds early, because summer weekends fill.

Day 1 (Mon 19 Jul): Pick up and head for Manning Park

Day 2 (Tue 20 Jul): Manning Park to Osoyoos

Walk part of the 9 km Lightning Lake loop, then drive about 181 km (112 miles, around 2 hours 30 minutes) over Allison Pass and through Princeton to Osoyoos. sẁiẁs Park, 2 km south of town on Osoyoos Lake, has lakeside campsites that book out in summer.

Day 3 (Wed 21 Jul): Over the mountains to the farm

Leave early for the 270 km (168 mile) run to the Salmo River Ranch, about 3 hours 50 minutes over Anarchist Mountain and Bonanza Pass. Fuel up and empty your tanks before Salmo, then buy Wednesday Early Entry and your Vehicle Pass at the gate. Want the best spots in Starlight? Pick up on Saturday 17 July instead (centres are closed Sundays) and arrive on Tuesday.

Day 4 (Thu 22 Jul): Settle in

The AMP and Living Room stages and all food and artisan vendors open on Thursday. Find the water refill stations and the General Store.

Days 5 to 8 (Fri 23 to Mon 26 Jul): Festival days

All six stages run from Friday. Your motorhome stays put, so walk or bike between camp and Downtown, and use the free on-site shuttle bus.

Day 9 (Tue 27 Jul): Rest, then drive west

Stay on site on Monday night so the driver gets a full night of sleep, then leave before the 5 PM deadline. Drive about 270 km (168 miles, around 3 hours 45 minutes) back to Osoyoos.

Day 10 (Wed 28 Jul): Osoyoos to Manning Park

An easy 181 km (112 miles) back to Manning Park for a last night in the mountains.

Day 11 (Thu 29 Jul): Return

Leave early for the 214 km (133 mile) run to Delta, empty the tanks and return the motorhome between 9 AM and 11 AM. Late returns after 11 AM can cost 25 dollars an hour on Cruise America's FAQ.

From Calgary instead: the 571 km drive splits well with a night near Fernie or Cranbrook each way, and Kikomun Creek Provincial Park near Cranbrook or Kokanee Creek Provincial Park near Nelson (13 powered sites in its Friends campground) make good stops.

Tips for Shambhala in an RV

  • Get a ticket before a van. Shambhala 2027 sold out within hours of going on sale on 15 September 2026. Join the waitlist or use the official transfer portal, and only pay the motorhome down payment once you hold a ticket.
  • Think about the 20 foot line. The Ultra Compact (19.6 ft) qualifies for the regular Vehicle Pass, every larger Cruise Canada model is oversized. Weigh the higher pass against more room and a propane furnace.
  • Plan to live off-grid. No power, no generators and no listed dump in the vehicle zones. Bring a power bank or solar charger, arrive with full fresh water and empty holding tanks, and keep showers short.
  • Arrive early for Starlight. Vehicle Passes are first come first served at the gate and Starlight fills with early entry campers. Tuesday Early Entry gives the best choice.
  • Respect the fire rules. No campfires, BBQs or propane heaters on the farm. Watch DriveBC and the BC Wildfire Service for Highway 3 closures and smoke.
  • Drive home rested. The festival asks for a sober driver with at least 8 hours of sleep, and you can stay until 5 PM Tuesday. Mountain grades on Highway 3 are no place for a tired driver in a 25 ft motorhome.
