The Fergus Scottish Festival and Highland Games 2027 runs from 13 to 15 August at the Centre Wellington Community Sportsplex in Fergus, Ontario, about 72 km (45 miles) west of the Cruise Canada motorhome depot in Bolton near Toronto. The festival sells its own campsites on the grounds, mostly 20 by 40 feet, with 15 amp power and limited water on Service sites but no dump station, and Elora Gorge Conservation Area is 8.6 km (5 miles) away if those sell out. In our live search for 10 to 17 August 2027, Cruise Canada motorhomes from Toronto start at C$249 a night before kilometre charges. 2027 camping prices are not yet published and 2026 sites sold out, so check the official site before you book.
Which rental brands suit the Fergus Scottish Festival?
One brand returned vans in our live search for a Toronto pick-up: Cruise Canada (the Canadian arm of Cruise America). It offers four motorhomes from its depot at 12275 Highway 50, Bolton: the Ultra Compact 18 ft (sleeps 2), Compact 21 ft (sleeps 4), Standard 25 ft (sleeps 5) and Large 30 ft (sleeps 7). All four have a toilet, shower and fridge, so they suit a festival campground where the showers are a walk away in the Sportsplex.
CanaDream is the other big Canadian brand, but it returned no vehicles in our search for these dates, so we cannot offer it for Fergus right now.
- Pick the right length: the festival sells sites with a 28 ft or 40 ft length limit, measured from front bumper to rear bumper, not living space. Going by the model names, the 18, 21 and 25 ft motorhomes suit a 28 ft site, while the Large 30 ft needs a 40 ft site. Confirm the exact bumper to bumper length with Cruise Canada before you buy your site.
- Six people per site: the festival allows no more than 6 people per campsite unless you are one family of parents and their children, so a full Large 30 ft (sleeps 7) only works for a single family.
- Power: Service sites have 15 amp outlets and air conditioning is not allowed. In Canada only the Large 30 ft has a generator, and the festival only permits generators on Oversize sites. Cruise America says the Ultra Compact needs external power for its 120 V furnace and air conditioning.
- Cancellations: Cruise America's FAQ says that for areas where special events such as music festivals occur, cancelling within 45 days of pick-up forfeits your reservation down payment. It does not say whether this covers Ontario, so ask before you book.
Compare these vehicles for your dates on our Toronto motorhome and campervan page.
What does Fergus Scottish Festival RV rental cost?
Live prices from the Campervan Rental Guide search for a Toronto pick-up on Tuesday 10 August 2027 and return on Tuesday 17 August 2027 (7 nights), searched on 19 October 2026. Prices are Canadian dollars per night, with the total for 7 nights.
- Ultra Compact 18 ft (sleeps 2): C$249.28 a night, C$1,812.72 total
- Compact 21 ft (sleeps 4): C$262.17 a night, C$1,902.91 total
- Standard 25 ft (sleeps 5): C$281.74 a night, C$2,039.92 total
- Large 30 ft (sleeps 7): C$316.07 a night, C$2,280.20 total
What is not in those prices
- Kilometres: Cruise America's FAQ says Canadian rentals are charged for an estimated 160 km per night (1,120 km over 7 nights) at 39 cents per kilometre, collected up front, with extra kilometres charged and unused ones refunded at return. The FAQ does not state the currency. The trip plan below covers only about 250 km, so plan your route before you buy. A Half Price Mileage Deal (promo code FRDM) is listed for departures through 31 October 2027.
- Kits: a Personal Kit is listed at 75 dollars per person and a Vehicle Provisioning Kit (cookware, crockery, cutlery, kettle) at 125 dollars per vehicle, currency not stated.
- Tank dump: a holding tank not emptied before return can add a charge of up to 100 dollars. The festival has no dump station, so budget for a dump stop on the way home.
- Festival camping and tickets: campsites, overflow parking (C$25 per site in the latest rules) and festival wristbands are all separate. 2027 camping and ticket prices were listed as coming soon when we checked on 19 October 2026, and all festival sales are final.
- Campgrounds before and after: Grand River Conservation Authority sites at Elora Gorge were C$52.50 to C$70.00 a night in 2026, plus a C$13.50 reservation fee.
- Cancellations, one-way fees and extras: check Cruise Canada's terms before you pay the down payment.
RV camping at the Fergus Scottish Festival
The festival runs its own campground on the Centre Wellington Community Sportsplex grounds, a short walk from the pipe bands, heavy events and Highland dancing. The camping page says 2026 sites sold out and 2027 camping pricing is coming soon. The rules below are the latest published (2026) ones, so confirm them on the official camping page before you buy.
Campsites and length limits
- Site size: most sites are 20 by 40 feet, Oversize sites are 20 by 50 feet, and sites in the shaded (tree) area vary in size.
- Length limits: the 2026 camping map lists Service sites with a 40 ft or 28 ft limit, Non Service sites with a 28 ft or 40 ft limit, Quiet Area Service sites up to 40 ft, and Oversized Non Service sites for RVs over 40 ft. Shaded sites are limited to 28 ft. Length is measured bumper to bumper, and units over the limit may be turned away.
- People and parking: no more than 6 people per site unless you are one family of parents and their children. Each site includes parking for one steering wheel (one RV, or one vehicle plus one towed unit). One extra overflow parking space costs C$25 and must be added when you buy the site.
- Wristbands: the campsite does not include festival admission, and every camper must wear a valid festival wristband.
Power, water and dumping
- Power: Service sites have 15 amp outlets. Bring your own cord rated at least 12/2 with ground, and up to about 110 feet of it depending on how far your site is from the power pole. Air conditioning is not permitted.
- Water: limited water hookup on Service sites, not guaranteed for every site. Bring a hose of up to 100 feet. There are no tank fill stations, so arrive with a full fresh water tank.
- Generators: allowed only on Oversize sites, from 7:30 to 10 AM and 4 to 8 PM, up to 3,500 W.
- No dump station: black and grey water dumping is not available on the grounds. The festival names Highland Pines Campground in Belwood, about 10 km (6 miles) away, as the closest with dumping facilities, and asks you to call ahead.
- Showers and toilets: showers and washrooms in the Sportsplex from Thursday to Monday, 6 AM to midnight, plus portable toilets across the grounds.
Arrival, departure and rules
- Check-in (2026): Thursday noon to 9 PM, Friday 8 AM to 8 PM and Saturday 8 AM to noon. Arriving before noon Thursday is not allowed without written permission from a board member. The festival itself opens at 5 PM on Friday.
- Departure: leave by noon on Monday with your site clean, and take propane cylinders away with you.
- Fires: wood burning campfires are banned under Township of Centre Wellington bylaws. Propane fire bowls are allowed when there is no fire ban, and every site must have a visible fire extinguisher.
- Other rules: quiet hours 1 AM to 7 AM, alcohol only on your campsite for ages 19 and over, pets on campsites only, and no bicycles or two-wheeled motor vehicles on the grounds. Ice is not sold on site, but convenience stores are within walking distance.
If the festival campground is full
- Elora Gorge Conservation Area (Grand River Conservation Authority), 7400 Wellington County Road 21, Elora, 8.6 km (5 miles) from the Sportsplex: 450 campsites, including 250 unserviced, 130 with water and 15/30 amp power, 20 with 15 amp power and 60 fully serviced with sewer. It has a dumping station (C$25.50 for non-campers in 2026). Alcohol and cannabis are banned all season.
- Guelph Lake Conservation Area, 16.7 km (10 miles) away: 109 sites with power and water and 183 unserviced, plus two beaches.
- Rockwood Conservation Area, 24.7 km (15 miles) away: about 46 sites with power and water, 16 full service and 43 unserviced, beside limestone cliffs and caves.
- Belwood Lake Conservation Area, 4.2 km (3 miles) away, is day use only with no camping, but its spring-fed quarry beach is a good swim stop.
All three Grand River campgrounds open from 1 May to 15 October and are booked online at grcacamping.ca.
Getting from Toronto to the Fergus Scottish Festival
The festival is held at the Centre Wellington Community Sportsplex, 550 Belsyde Avenue East, Fergus. The main entrance is on Belsyde Avenue.
- From the Cruise Canada depot (12275 Highway 50, Bolton): about 72 km (45 miles), around 1 hour 20 minutes without traffic. The route heads north on Highway 50, west on Highway 9 and then across Dufferin and Wellington county roads into Fergus, so you skip Highway 401 altogether.
- From Toronto Pearson airport: about 86 km (53 miles), around 1 hour 20 minutes via Highway 401, Guelph Line and Wellington Road 29. The depot is a further 24 km from the airport and Cruise Canada does not offer airport transfers, so arrange a taxi or rideshare to Bolton.
- From downtown Toronto (Union Station): about 104 km (65 miles), around 1 hour 30 minutes via the Gardiner Expressway and Highway 401.
- Arriving to camp: campers use the camping entry on the festival map and must not arrive before noon on Thursday. Fill your fresh water tank and dump your tanks before you arrive, because neither is possible on the grounds.
- Coming for the day: on-site parking was C$10 in 2026, first come, first served. A free school bus shuttle ran from downtown Fergus, and the Township of Centre Wellington runs a free Elora and Fergus Downtown Shuttle that stops at the Sportsplex, hourly from 11 AM to 5 PM on summer Fridays to Sundays in 2026.
Drive times are free-flow estimates from OSRM. Expect heavier traffic leaving Toronto on a summer Thursday or Friday afternoon. Compare pick-ups on our Toronto page and read the festival's General Info and FAQ page.
A 7 night Fergus Scottish Festival road trip from Toronto
This plan matches our live search: pick up Tuesday 10 August, return Tuesday 17 August 2027. Cruise Canada centres are closed on Sundays, and pick-up is normally 1 PM to 4 PM with drop-off 9 AM to 11 AM. Grand River campgrounds check in after 2 PM and check out before noon. Book early, because August is peak season.
Day 1 (Tue 10 Aug): Pick up and head to Rockwood
Collect your motorhome in Bolton, shop for groceries and drive about 55 km (34 miles, around 1 hour 5 minutes) to Rockwood Conservation Area. Walk the trails past limestone cliffs, caves and glacial potholes.
Day 2 (Wed 11 Aug): On to the Elora Gorge
Drive about 33 km (21 miles, 35 minutes) to Elora Gorge Conservation Area, where the Grand River runs below 22 metre cliffs. Book a tubing ticket online in advance, or ride part of the 47 km Elora Cataract Trailway. In the afternoon, swim at the Elora Quarry (timed tickets online only, sessions 10 AM to 2 PM and 3 to 7 PM in 2026).
Day 3 (Thu 12 Aug): Into the festival campground
Fill your fresh water tank on a serviced Elora Gorge site, empty your tanks at the park dumping station, check out before noon and drive 8.6 km (5 miles, about 13 minutes) to the Sportsplex. Check-in opened at noon on Thursday in 2026. Ice is not sold on the grounds, but convenience stores are within walking distance.
Day 4 (Fri 13 Aug): Elora by day, Tattoo by night
The free Elora and Fergus Downtown Shuttle stops at the Sportsplex and runs hourly from 11 AM to 5 PM on summer Fridays to Sundays (2026 timetable), so ride it into Elora village by the Grand River, then be back for the festival opening at 5 PM and the Friday night Tattoo'd in Tradition ceremony. Bring a lawn chair, as bleacher seating is limited.
Days 5 and 6 (Sat 14 and Sun 15 Aug): Highland Games
Two full days of heavy events, pipe band competitions, Highland dancing, clan tents and whisky tastings (ticketed separately). Your site is yours until Monday, so stay for the Sunday finale.
Day 7 (Mon 16 Aug): Belwood Lake and back towards Toronto
Leave by noon. Empty your tanks at Highland Pines Campground (call ahead) or Elora Gorge, then cool off at the Belwood Lake quarry beach, 4.2 km (3 miles) from the Sportsplex. Drive about 84 km (52 miles, around 1 hour 20 minutes) to Indian Line Campground in Brampton, 15 km from the depot.
Day 8 (Tue 17 Aug): Return
Return the motorhome to Bolton between 9 AM and 11 AM. Late returns after 11 AM are charged 25 dollars an hour on Cruise America's FAQ.
Tips for the Fergus Scottish Festival in an RV
- Join the newsletter for camping. The 2026 festival campground sold out and 2027 prices are still coming soon. Sign up on the official site so you hear when sites go on sale, and remember all sales are final.
- Book the right length. Sites are sold with 28 ft or 40 ft limits measured bumper to bumper. Get your motorhome's exact length from Cruise Canada before you buy the site.
- Bring a long cord and hose. Service sites have 15 amp outlets and may be up to about 110 feet from the power pole. Bring a 12/2 with ground cord, an adapter if your RV plug does not fit a standard 15 amp outlet, and up to 100 feet of hose. Ask Cruise Canada what comes with the motorhome, because we could not confirm it.
- Arrive full, leave empty. There is no water fill or dump station on the grounds. Fill up and dump at Elora Gorge on the way in, and plan a dump stop on the way out, because Cruise America can charge up to 100 dollars for a full holding tank.
- Pack for the fire ban. Wood fires are banned on the festival campground. Bring a propane fire bowl if you want a fire, plus the fire extinguisher every site must show.
- Know the kilometre cost. Cruise America charges 39 cents per kilometre for Canadian rentals, and this trip covers only about 250 km. Ask how unused kilometres are refunded and check the FRDM half price mileage deal.
