Electric Forest is a four day music festival in the pine forest of the Double JJ Resort in Rothbury, Michigan, held in late June. The 2027 dates have not been announced, and 2026 ran from 25 to 28 June. Electric Forest RV camping needs a separate RV Pass per vehicle: in 2026 a GA RV Pass (no hookups) was US$600, a GA Powered RV Pass (30 amp) US$1,000 and a Good Life Powered RV Pass US$1,250, all for a 20 by 50 ft site, and every option sold out. In our live search for 22 to 29 June 2027, Cruise America motorhomes from Chicago, about 226 miles (364 km) away, started at US$179.15 a night.
Which rental brands suit Electric Forest?
One brand returned vehicles in our live search from Chicago for Tuesday 22 to Tuesday 29 June 2027: Cruise America. El Monte RV, the other brand we compare in Chicago, returned nothing for these dates.
- Cruise America (motorhomes): Class C motorhomes with a toilet, shower and fridge, shown as the Compact 21 ft (sleeps 4), Standard 25 ft (sleeps 5) and Large 30 ft (sleeps 7). All three fit inside Electric Forest's 20 by 50 ft RV sites, and Cruise America says these three sizes have built-in generators, which the festival allows.
- Which pass you need: Electric Forest counts any RV longer than 20 ft as an RV, so every Cruise America model needs an RV Pass. Its car camping bans vehicles with a toilet, so a motorhome cannot use a car camping pass.
- Depots: Cruise America hands over at 2732 Mannheim Road, Franklin Park, near O'Hare, and at 895 Richardson Road, East Dundee. Both are closed on Sundays.
Electric Forest does not mention rental RVs on its site, and Cruise America publishes no Electric Forest rule that we could find, so tell the brand about the festival and get its answer in writing before you book. Compare depots and live prices on our Chicago RV hire page.
What does Electric Forest RV hire cost?
Prices in US$ from our live Chicago search on 19 October 2026, for a hire picking up Tuesday 22 June and returning Tuesday 29 June 2027 (7 nights). We used the most likely festival dates because 2027 has not been announced.
- Compact 21 ft (sleeps 4): US$179.15 a night, US$1,320.57 total
- Standard 25 ft (sleeps 5): US$188.82 a night, US$1,388.29 total
- Large 30 ft (sleeps 7): US$196.33 a night, US$1,440.82 total
What is not in those prices
- Mileage: Cruise America collects an estimate of 100 miles a night up front at 39 cents a mile and refunds what you do not use. Its Half Price Mileage Deal (down to 19 cents a mile, departures through 31 October 2027, not one-ways) covers late June. The return drive from Franklin Park is about 452 miles (728 km).
- Generator and kits: generator use is US$3.50 an hour by meter, a Personal Kit US$75 per person and a Vehicle Provisioning Kit US$125.
- RV camping pass: in 2026 the GA RV Pass was US$600, GA Powered RV US$1,000 and Good Life Powered RV US$1,250, with service fees included. 2027 prices are not published.
- Festival passes: the RV Pass covers the site, not entry. Everyone needs a festival wristband, and the 2026 GA Pass started at US$600.
- On-site services: in GA RV camping, a black or grey water waste removal is US$80 and a water fill US$80.
Electric Forest RV camping: passes, sizes and hookups
Yes, you can bring an RV. Electric Forest sells one RV Pass per vehicle, not per person, and each RV site is 20 by 50 ft. The details below come from the official Passes and Packages page and the Electric Forest FAQs for the 2026 festival, and every camping option was sold out when we checked. 2027 passes are not yet on sale.
RV camping options (2026 prices, fees included)
- GA RV Pass, US$600: one RV site with no water, sewer or power hookups, Wednesday to Sunday, plus one companion car pass.
- GA Powered RV Pass, US$1,000: as above with 30 amp power.
- Good Life Powered RV Pass, US$1,250: an RV site with 30 amp power in the Good Life Village, the festival's VIP area, with one free waste removal but no water or sewer hookups. You also need Good Life passes, which include shortcut entrances, free showers and air-conditioned restrooms.
- Back 40 FHU RV Package, US$6,400 to US$8,800: full hookups (30 amp, water and sewer) for 4 to 6 people with wristbands, brunch and pool access.
- Pre-Set RVs (no RV of your own): furnished RVs with power and daily waste and water service, from US$4,950 for two at Lucky Lake and US$5,900 for two in Good Life.
RV rules to know
- What counts as an RV: oversized vehicles, towed trailers and campers, buses, Sprinter vans and RVs longer than 20 ft. Cars, pickups, SUVs and passenger vans up to 12 seats do not need an RV Pass.
- Companion car: one per RV, smaller than 16 ft, and it must arrive with the RV.
- No moving: once parked, your RV stays put until you leave, so stock up first. No fuel is sold on site.
- Generators: built-in RV generators running off the RV's fuel are allowed. Portable gas generators and gas cans are banned, and solar generators are allowed.
- Services: free water filling stations are spread through the campgrounds, and GA RV waste removal and water fills cost US$80 each.
- Arrival: in 2026, GA RVs could arrive from 12:01am Wednesday, Good Life RVs from 8am Wednesday and Back 40 RVs from 10am Wednesday. GA campgrounds close at 4pm Monday.
Campgrounds near Electric Forest
In 2026 the festival said vehicles without a parking or camping pass would not be allowed on site, and its Satellite Parking (US$100, cars only, no camping) sold out. Off-site camping is only useful if you also hold parking or a shuttle seat.
- The Back Forty Campground and RV Park, 5900 Water Road, Rothbury: Double JJ's own park, with full hookup, water and electric, and primitive sites and 20 to 50 amp power. The festival's Back 40 packages use the same Water Road entrance, so ask the park about festival week.
- Silver Lake State Park, 9679 W. State Park Road, Mears: about 17 miles (27 km) from the festival, with 200 sites with 20 or 30 amp power, pull-through sites and a sanitation station. Book on 800-447-2757.
- Charles Mears State Park, Pentwater: about 20 miles (32 km) away, with 175 sites, electric service and a sanitation station. Call the park on 231-869-2051 to check hookups.
How do you get to Electric Forest from Chicago?
The Double JJ Resort is at 5900 Water Road, Rothbury, about 226 miles (364 km) from the Cruise America depot in Franklin Park. A mapping estimate for a car is about 4 hours 40 minutes, so allow longer in a motorhome. Michigan is on Eastern Time, an hour ahead of Chicago.
- Route: take I-290 and the tolled Indiana Toll Road (I-90) east, then I-94 and I-196 north up the lakeshore, and US 31 north past Muskegon to Rothbury.
- Which exit: in 2026 GA RVs used the North Toll (US 31 exit 140, Stony Lake Road), while Good Life RVs used the Good Life Toll and Back 40 RVs the Back 40 Toll on Water Road (both from exit 136, Winston Road). Check your pass for 2027.
- Before you arrive: fuel up and fill your fresh water tank, because no fuel is sold on site and your RV cannot move once parked. Stick your RV decal on before you reach the toll.
- Other pick-ups: East Dundee, Cruise America's other Chicago depot, is about 253 miles (407 km) away. Grand Rapids is only about 64 miles (103 km) away but is not a CRG pick-up city.
- Shuttles: Electric Forest also sold round trip shuttles from Chicago, Grand Rapids, Detroit, Ann Arbor, Columbus and New York City in 2026, if part of your group travels separately.

8 day Electric Forest RV trip from Chicago
This plan assumes the festival runs Thursday 24 to Sunday 27 June 2027, which is not yet confirmed, with an RV hire from Tuesday 22 to Tuesday 29 June. Drive times are mapping estimates for a car.
Day 1: Tuesday 22 June, Chicago to the Michigan dunes
Collect your motorhome in Franklin Park (open 9am to 4pm on weekdays), shop for four days of food and water, and drive around Lake Michigan to a booked site such as Silver Lake State Park near Mears, about 4 to 5 hours away.
Day 2: Wednesday 23 June, check in to The Forest
Fill the fuel and water tanks, empty the waste tanks, and drive the short hop to Rothbury. In 2026 GA RVs could check in from 12:01am and Good Life RVs from 8am on Wednesday.
Days 3 to 6: Thursday 24 to Sunday 27 June, Electric Forest
The RV stays parked all weekend, so walk to the venue each day. Use the free water stations, and book a waste removal at your Neighborhood Pod or the Good Life Concierge if your tanks fill up.
Day 7: Monday 28 June, pack out and rest
Leave before the GA campgrounds close at 4pm and drive to Charles Mears State Park in Pentwater or back to Silver Lake for a quiet night by the lake.
Day 8: Tuesday 29 June, return to Chicago
Drive back around the lake, gaining an hour as you cross into Central Time, and return the RV to Franklin Park by 4pm with the tanks emptied.
Electric Forest RV tips
- Buy the RV Pass before the RV. Every 2026 camping option sold out, and a motorhome cannot use a car camping pass.
- Pick the right pass for power. The GA RV Pass has no hookups. Choose a Powered RV Pass for 30 amp, or Back 40 for water and sewer.
- Arrive full and empty. Fill fuel and fresh water and empty waste tanks before the toll, because no fuel is sold on site and you cannot move once parked.
- Use the built-in generator only. Portable gas generators and gas cans are banned. Cruise America charges US$3.50 an hour for generator use.
- Arrive together. Your companion car must arrive with the RV and be under 16 ft, and staff will not save spaces for friends arriving later.
- Watch for the 2027 announcement. The 2026 dates were announced in late November 2025, so check the official site and newsletter from November 2026.
