The Repco Bathurst 1000 is usually held from Thursday to Sunday in early October at Mount Panorama, Bathurst, about 200 km west of Sydney, and Supercars had not confirmed 2027 dates when we checked in October 2026 (7 to 10 October 2027 is the likely pattern). Bathurst 1000 camping on the mountain is booked per site through Supercars, from $370 to $790 in 2026, a campervan or motorhome is allowed if it fits inside the site, and powered sites are only in The Orchard and the Motorhome Park. In our live search for 5 to 12 October 2027, Sydney campervan hire starts from about $68 a night, with 11 brands showing vans, including Apollo, Britz, Jucy, Maui, Mighty and Spaceships.
Which rental brands suit the Bathurst 1000?
Eleven brands we compare returned campervans or motorhomes from Sydney in our live search for Tuesday 5 to Tuesday 12 October 2027: Apollo, Auto-Sleepers, Britz, Campervan Village, Camperman, Jucy, Maui, Mighty, Spaceships, Star RV and Travellers Autobarn. That was 60 vehicles, 57 of them showing Available Now and three on request. We found no Bathurst-specific rules from these brands, so read each brand's terms before you book. The rules that matter most come from Supercars: your van must fit inside your campsite, it needs one of your site's vehicle passes, and every camper needs an event ticket.
- Budget two and three sleepers: Travellers Autobarn (Modern Budget Touring Wagon, Budgie, Chubby, Hitop, Kuga), Spaceships (Alpha, Beta Standard, Beta 2S), Campervan Village (Mini Camper with a rooftop tent, Aventus, Johnny Feelgood, Alice Chillgood) and Camperman (Juliette 2-3, Maxie 3) suit couples and mates who will use the campground showers and toilets.
- Self-contained with shower and toilet: Mighty Duo, Deuce and Deuce Plus, Apollo Euro Mini, Euro Tourer and Euro Plus, Britz Trailblazer, Auto-Sleepers Kea Nomad 2+1, Maui Ultima and Ultima Plus, and Star RV Polaris 2 cut out the amenities queues.
- Four to six berths for groups: Camperman Maxie 4, Mighty Double Up and Big Six, Apollo Euro Quest, Euro Camper and Euro Deluxe, Maui Beach and River, Jucy Chill'd Big Kahuna and Star RV Polaris 6. Each Mount Panorama site takes up to eight people, so a group can share one van and pitch tents beside it if the site is big enough.
- Without a bathroom but more beds: Spaceships Beta 4 Berth, Jucy Crib Plus and Condo, Travellers Autobarn Hi5, Auto-Sleepers Kea Navigator, Campervan Village Desert Sands and Grip 4x4, and Britz Voyager.
Check the length and height of your vehicle with the brand. Mount Panorama sites range from 6 m by 8 m to 10 m by 10 m, not all sites are flat, and the tunnel into the Paddock campground has a 3.1 m height limit. Our Sydney search also lets you change the drop-off city if you want to keep travelling after the race.
How much does campervan hire for the Bathurst 1000 cost?
Prices below are nightly prices in Australian dollars from our live Sydney search on 19 October 2026, picking up Tuesday 5 October 2027 and returning Tuesday 12 October 2027 (7 nights). Prices change with availability, so search your own dates for current rates. The results page also shows a total for the whole hire including fees, for example $656.57 for the Spaceships Alpha and $760.39 for the Campervan Village Mini Camper.
- Two sleepers without a bathroom: about $68 to $273 a night (Travellers Autobarn Modern Budget Touring Wagon, on request, to Britz Hitop). Campervan Village Aventus was $76 and Spaceships Alpha $82.
- Three sleepers without a bathroom: about $69 to $149 a night (Campervan Village Mini Camper, Camperman Juliette 2-3 and Maxie 3, Travellers Autobarn Hitop and Kuga).
- Four and five sleepers without a bathroom: about $128 to $285 a night (Spaceships Beta 4 Berth, Jucy Crib Plus and Condo, Travellers Autobarn Hi5, Auto-Sleepers Kea Navigator, Campervan Village Desert Sands and Grip 4x4, Britz Voyager).
- Two and three sleepers with shower and toilet: about $191 to $417 a night (Auto-Sleepers Kea Nomad 2+1, Mighty Duo and Deuce, Apollo Euro Mini and Euro Tourer, Britz Trailblazer, Maui Ultima, Star RV Polaris 2).
- Four sleepers with shower and toilet: about $172 to $441 a night (Camperman Maxie 4, Mighty Double Up, Apollo Euro Quest and Euro Camper, Maui Beach).
- Six sleepers with shower and toilet: about $353 to $463 a night (Mighty Big Six, Apollo Euro Deluxe, Maui River, Jucy Chill'd Big Kahuna, Star RV Polaris 6).
These rates leave out insurance excess reduction, one-way fees, extras such as camping kits and power leads, and fuel. They also leave out your Bathurst costs. A Mount Panorama campsite cost $370 to $790 per site in 2026, and it does not include entry: every camper needs a Repco Bathurst 1000 admission ticket covering the days they camp, and in 2026 anyone checking in before 6pm on the Thursday needed a 4-day General Admission ticket. Children aged 12 and under get free entry with a paying adult. Supercars has not published 2027 camping or ticket prices yet, so check the Bathurst Camping Hub.
Bathurst 1000 camping on Mount Panorama: campgrounds, prices and campervan rules
Supercars runs the campgrounds around Mount Panorama, which it calls the largest annual campsite in the Southern Hemisphere, with more than 25,000 campers in race week. Sites are sold per site, not per person, take up to eight people, and cost the same whether you stay two nights or the full booking period. The details below are from Supercars' 2026 camping FAQs and rules, checked in October 2026. Supercars has not published 2027 prices or dates.
Campgrounds, 2026 prices and site sizes
- McPhillamy Park: $440 per site with 2 vehicle passes, about 8 m by 8 m, with accessible amenities.
- Reid and Sulman: $440 per site with 2 vehicle passes, about 8 m by 8 m, with accessible amenities.
- Paddock: $500 per site with 1 vehicle pass, about 6 m by 8 m. Access is through a tunnel with a 3.1 m height limit.
- Max Cameron, Chase and Enduro: $370 per site with 2 vehicle passes. Max Cameron and Enduro sites are about 6 m by 8 m, Chase sites about 7 m by 7 m.
- The Orchard: unpowered $370, powered standard $590 (both about 7.5 m by 7.5 m) and powered large $750 (about 15 m by 6 m), each with 2 vehicle passes.
- Motorhome Park: $790 per powered site with 2 vehicle passes, about 10 m by 10 m. Supercars says the Motorhome Park and Enduro layouts are under review for future years and campers may not get the same site number.
Can I bring a campervan or motorhome?
- Yes. Supercars says you can bring a motorhome or caravan onto your site provided it fits within the site's perimeter, and notes that not all sites are flat. Sites are line-marked and sizes are approximate.
- Every vehicle entering a campground must display a vehicle pass, which is posted to the booking address before the event. Your campervan uses one of the site's passes. Extra cars park in the public car park off Panorama Avenue.
- If a hire company delivers a van or motorhome to your site, you must email the Camping Team first for an entry letter. A van you collect and drive in yourself just needs the vehicle pass.
- Check-in in 2026 opened at 9am on Saturday 3 October for McPhillamy Park and Reid and Sulman, Sunday 4 October for the Paddock and Tuesday 6 October for the other campgrounds, and all sites had to be vacated by 10am on Tuesday 13 October. New check-ins run from 7am to 10pm only.
Powered sites for campervans
- Power is only available in The Orchard and the Motorhome Park, at 10 or 15 amps.
- Bring your own 25 metre lead, tested and tagged. Supercars cannot guarantee a connection with a shorter lead.
- Generators are allowed on all sites but must be off from 11pm to 7am and never used during a fire ban. You can bring in up to 20 litres of fuel a day.
- Dump points are in the Paddock, Motorhome Park, Chase, Orchard, Reid and Sulman and Max Cameron campgrounds.
How to get a Mount Panorama campsite for 2027
Returning campers get renewal notices in April, and over 90 per cent of 2026 sites were renewed before the public sale. The remaining 2026 sites went on public sale at 10am AEST on Monday 18 May, one site per transaction, and sold out in under 90 minutes. Fill in the 2027 expression of interest form on the Bathurst Camping Hub to get sale updates.
Campground rules to know
- No glass except food jars of 200 ml or less, and alcohol is limited per adult per day (for example one carton of 30 full-strength cans or one 4 litre cask). Decant spirits into plastic before you arrive.
- Fires only in a metal drum, never when the fire danger rating is Extreme or Catastrophic, and fully out before you leave.
- Quiet hours are 11pm to 6am. No pets except assistance animals, no drones, no fireworks and no riding e-bikes or e-scooters in the campgrounds.
- Gas bottles must be 9 kg or less including gas, and only one standard 3 m by 3 m gazebo per site is allowed in the viewing areas.
Camping off the mountain
- Carrington Park and Bathurst Sportsground: run by the Bathurst Visitor Information Centre in town, near the shuttle buses to the circuit. In 2026 sites were $305.50 for the whole event (up to six people), open from Wednesday 7 to Tuesday 13 October, with no power, no fires and one vehicle per site. Caravan sites (about 6 m by 15 m) were fully booked, so ask the centre on 1800 68 1000 early about a campervan site.
- NRMA Bathurst Panorama Holiday Park: 250 Sydney Road, Kelso, on the Sydney side of town, with ensuite, powered and unpowered sites, a dump point and race week shuttle timetables at reception. Book well ahead for race week.
How to get from Sydney to the Bathurst 1000 in a campervan
Bathurst is about 200 km west of Sydney, and the NRMA calls it a three-hour drive over the Blue Mountains. The usual route is the Great Western Highway through Katoomba and Lithgow, but Victoria Pass between Mount Victoria and Little Hartley was closed in both directions through race week 2026 and remained closed when we checked in October 2026. Transport for NSW expects the highway to reopen in the second quarter of 2027, pending site conditions and testing, so check before you leave.
- If Victoria Pass is still closed: drive the Great Western Highway to Mount Victoria, then take the Darling Causeway, Chifley Road and Main Street through Lithgow back to the highway. The other detour is Bells Line of Road from Richmond, then Chifley Road to Lithgow.
- Allow extra time: Supercars strongly recommended adding extra travel time in 2026. Check Live Traffic NSW on the day.
- Blue Mountains stops: Katoomba, Blackheath and Mount Victoria are all on the way, so break the drive with a lookout walk and a meal.
Where to pick up your campervan in Sydney
- Britz and Mighty: 125 Nancy Ellis Leebold Drive, Bankstown Aerodrome, open 9am to 3:30pm every day. Both say you must collect or return at least one hour before closing.
- Other brands: check depot locations and hours for Apollo, Auto-Sleepers, Campervan Village, Camperman, Jucy, Maui, Spaceships, Star RV and Travellers Autobarn when you book.
Arriving at Mount Panorama
Have your admission ticket and vehicle pass ready, as vehicles are searched at the campground gate and campers get a wristband for re-entry. Once checked in you can come and go 24 hours a day, but there are no new check-ins from 10pm to 7am. In 2026 Tip Road was open as a re-entry gate for McPhillamy Park and Reid and Sulman from 8am to 6pm, with no towing allowed. If you would rather not drive, Supercars listed extra Sydney trains from Blacktown with a change at Lithgow on race weekend in 2026, plus event shuttles from Bathurst Station. Start from our Sydney campervan hire page and see the official Bathurst 1000 page.
An 8 day Bathurst 1000 campervan trip from Sydney
This plan matches our search dates, collecting on Tuesday 5 October 2027 and returning on Tuesday 12 October 2027, and assumes the race follows its usual Thursday to Sunday pattern. Confirm the 2027 dates and your campground's check-in day before you book.
Day 1 (Tuesday): Collect the van and cross the Blue Mountains
Pick up in Sydney in the morning, stock up on food, ice and drinks in cans or plastic, and head west. Stop at Katoomba for the lookouts, then stay at a holiday park in the mountains or push on to Bathurst.
Day 2 (Wednesday): Check in on the mountain
Arrive at your campground between 7am and 10pm with your ticket and vehicle pass, set up inside your site lines and plug into power if you booked The Orchard or the Motorhome Park.
Days 3 to 5 (Thursday to Saturday): Practice, qualifying and support races
On-track sessions run across these days, so check the official track schedule on the Supercars event page. Walk the circuit to the viewing areas, pick up supplies in Bathurst if you need them, and remember the ice truck visits the campgrounds. Keep noise down from 11pm and generators off until 7am.
Day 6 (Sunday): The Great Race
The 1000 km race runs most of the day. Get to your viewing area early and keep water and sun protection with you.
Day 7 (Monday): Lap 162 in town
In 2026 Bathurst held Lap 162: The Great Race Cool Down on the Monday, with a winners' parade and live music. Start packing the site and empty your tanks at a campground dump point.
Day 8 (Tuesday): Pack up and return the van
Leave your site clean before the 10am check-out, as Supercars can charge a $200 cleaning fee. Allow at least three hours for the drive back, plus detour time if Victoria Pass is still closed, and return the van before your depot's last return time.
Tips for the Bathurst 1000 in a campervan
- Get your campsite before your van: 2026 sites sold out in under 90 minutes on public sale day in May, so register your interest with Supercars and be online when 2027 sites go on sale.
- Measure the van against the site: sites are 6 m by 8 m to 10 m by 10 m, not all are flat, and the Paddock tunnel has a 3.1 m height limit. Ask the brand for the van's length and height.
- Book power only if you can use it: powered sites are only in The Orchard and the Motorhome Park, and you need your own 25 metre tested and tagged lead. Check the van has a 240V inlet first.
- Buy the right admission ticket: the campsite does not include entry, and in 2026 anyone checking in before 6pm on the Thursday needed a 4-day General Admission ticket.
- Pack for the rules: no glass, a daily alcohol limit per adult, gas bottles of 9 kg or less and fires only in a metal drum. Bring a fire drum, plastic bottles and warm layers for cold nights on the mountain.
- Check the road before you leave Sydney: Victoria Pass on the Great Western Highway is expected to reopen in the second quarter of 2027. If it is still shut, follow the signed detour via the Darling Causeway and Lithgow.
