The Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta 2027 runs for nine days, 2 to 10 October, at Balloon Fiesta Park in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and it has its own RV lots on site, from US$60 a night for dry camping to US$300 with 50 amp hookups (2026 prices, 3-night minimum, booked online only). In our live search on 19 October 2026 for 29 September to 13 October 2027, Denver pick-ups started from US$52.35 a night for a Cruise America motorhome. Denver is the nearest CRG pick-up, about 468 miles (753 km) away on I-25, so book your RV site first, because every 2026 site sold out.

Which rental brands suit the Balloon Fiesta?

Cruise America was the only brand that returned vans in our live Denver search for 29 September to 13 October 2027. The same dates from Las Vegas and Los Angeles also returned Travellers Autobarn campervans. Neither brand publishes a Balloon Fiesta rule that we could find, so tell them you plan to dry camp at the event when you book.

  • Cruise America (motorhomes): Class C motorhomes with a toilet, shower and fridge: the Ultra Compact 18 ft (sleeps 2), Compact 21 ft (sleeps 4), Standard 25 ft (sleeps 5) and Large 30 ft (sleeps 7). All are shorter than the 55 ft depth of a typical Balloon Fiesta RV space. Cruise America lists a generator on the Compact, Standard and Large in the USA (charged at US$3.50 an hour) but not on the Ultra Compact, which matters because most fiesta lots are dry camping.
  • Travellers Autobarn (campervans, Las Vegas and Los Angeles only): Minivan, Hitop, Kuga, Chubby, Beeva and Hi5 campervans sleeping 2 to 4, with unlimited miles. Autobarn lists no toilet or generator on any model. The Balloon Fiesta RV page does not say whether campervans can book its RV lots, so email rvspace@balloonfiesta.com before you rely on one, or plan on a nearby RV park.
  • Cruise America in Albuquerque: Cruise America also lists a dealer in Albuquerque, Route 66 Garage at 9525 Central Ave NW (phone (505) 489-3440), renting the 21, 25 and 30 ft models Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm. It did not appear in our live search, so ring it for fiesta availability. A local pick-up saves about 935 miles of round-trip driving from Denver.

What does Balloon Fiesta RV hire cost?

Prices in US$ from our live search on 19 October 2026 for a Denver hire picking up Wednesday 29 September and returning Wednesday 13 October 2027 (14 nights, the full fiesta). Cruise America quotes per night and Travellers Autobarn per rental day. Totals are the search totals for the whole hire.

  • Cruise America from Denver, 14 nights: Compact 21 ft US$52.35 a night (US$895.92 total), Standard 25 ft US$58.94 (US$988.18 total), Large 30 ft US$65.53 (US$1,080.44 total) and Ultra Compact 18 ft US$85.16 (US$1,355.17 total).
  • Cruise America from Denver, opening weekend only (29 September to 6 October 2027, 7 nights): Compact US$52.43 a night (US$484.38 total), Standard US$59.09 (US$531.03 total), Large US$65.46 (US$575.61 total) and Ultra Compact US$85.16 (US$713.49 total).
  • From Las Vegas, 14 nights: Cruise America US$52.18 (30 ft) to US$65.15 (21 ft) a night, and Travellers Autobarn from US$51.02 a day for the Minivan to US$129.37 for the Hi5 (US$765.29 to US$1,940.52 total), before a drive of about 569 to 581 miles (916 to 936 km).
  • From Los Angeles, 14 nights: Cruise America US$53.19 to US$59.77 a night and Travellers Autobarn US$51.02 to US$129.37 a day, before a drive of about 805 miles (1,296 km).

These rates leave out:

  • Your RV site: official Balloon Fiesta lots were US$60 to US$300 a night in 2026, with a 3-night minimum. See the camping section.
  • Admission: Standard and Box View sites include no tickets. General admission was US$20 per person per session in 2026 (US$22.24 online with the fee), and children 12 and under were free.
  • Cruise America mileage: its FAQ quotes 39 cents a mile, so the roughly 935-mile round trip from Denver adds about US$365 before any mileage deal. Generator use is US$3.50 an hour.
  • On-site services: water fills and tank pumping were US$50 each in the 2026 RV rules.
  • Kits, insurance excess, one-way fees and other extras, which vary by brand, so compare live totals for your dates.

Where can you park an RV at the Balloon Fiesta?

Right at the event. Balloon Fiesta Park has its own RV lots, and the official RV page lists five site types. The fiesta says it takes no drive-ups: every space must be reserved online in advance, for individuals only, with a 3-night minimum booked as consecutive nights. All 2026 sites sold out and the waitlist closed. The 2027 prices and booking date had not been published when we checked in October 2026, so the prices below are for 2026.

Official Balloon Fiesta RV lots (2026 prices)

  • Standard: US$60 a night, dry camping in the South RV Lot. No admission tickets included.
  • Box View: US$70 a night, dry camping in the South RV Lot around the designated balloon landing zone. No admission tickets included.
  • VIP West/East: US$130 a night, dry camping next to the launch field, with 2 general admission tickets per session per day.
  • VIP North: US$130 a night, dry camping north of the launch field, with 2 general admission tickets per session per day. The fiesta warns that fireworks to the northwest can be loud for pets and children.
  • President's Compound: US$300 a night, 50 amp hookups, water and pumping on a bluff overlooking the launch field, with 4 general admission tickets per session per day.

How the RV lots work

  • Booking: 2026 bookings opened online on 28 January 2026 at 9am MST through the fiesta's booking link. Watch the RV page from January for 2027.
  • Space and parking: most spaces are about 20 ft wide and 55 ft deep, on temporary lots that may be uneven. Parking is rally style (first come, first served) everywhere except President's Compound, so arrive together if you want to camp next to friends. Once parked, the RV stays put until check-out.
  • Check-in and check-out: in 2026, check-in ran 8am to 6:45pm before the event and 12pm to 6:45pm during it, with no parking after dark. Check-out is 10am to 11:30am, and no RVs move while balloons are flying.
  • Water, waste and showers: water is available on arrival at the Standard lot only. AAA Pumping Service sells water fills and tank pumping (US$50 each in 2026). There is no dump station and no shower, but portable toilets are in every lot.
  • Generators and fires: generators are allowed up to 80 decibels, external units must sit 2 ft off the ground, and quiet hours are 10:30pm to 3:30am. No campfires, fire pits, charcoal grills, tents or smoking. Propane and pellet grills are allowed.
  • Shuttle and pets: a free shuttle serves the South RV Lot from 4am to noon, plus 2:45pm to 10pm on two-session days. Leashed pets may stay in the RV lots, but dogs are not allowed in Balloon Fiesta Park itself, except service animals.
  • Cancellations: through 14 July, refunds less US$30 (US$50 for President's Compound), 50 percent from 15 July to 31 August, and none from 1 September. Paid reservations do not roll over.

RV parks near Balloon Fiesta Park

  • Balloon View RV Park, 500 Tyler Road NE: 87 pull-through full-hookup sites with 30 and 50 amp power, about 4 miles (7 km) by road from the park. Regular rates start at US$45 a night plus tax, and fiesta rates are by phone on 800-932-9523.
  • Albuquerque North / Bernalillo KOA Journey, 555 South Hill Road, Bernalillo: pull-through sites with 50 amp power, about 10 miles (16 km) north. Phone 505-867-5227.
  • Albuquerque KOA Journey, 12400 Skyline Road NE: about 12 miles (20 km) away. For the fiesta it requires a 3-night minimum and full payment when you book, with a US$150 cancellation fee before 15 September and no refund after.
  • American RV Resort, 13500 Central Ave SW: gated, full hookups and concrete pads up to 70 ft, off I-40 Exit 149 on the west side, about 18 miles (30 km) by road.

From an off-site park, use the official Park and Ride (2026: US$32.59 for adults in advance, admission included, from Cottonwood Mall, Coronado Center, Hoffmantown Church and Intel on weekends, with no service Monday to Wednesday) or drive to the general lots, which cost US$20 per session, cash only. The FAQ does not mention RVs in those lots, so leave the RV at your park. Camp 505, the fiesta's tent package, does not allow RV or car camping.

How do you get to the Balloon Fiesta from Denver?

Balloon Fiesta Park sits north of Alameda Boulevard, about a mile west of I-25 in north Albuquerque. From the Cruise America depot at 4180 Busch Place, Frederick, north of Denver, it is about 468 miles (753 km), almost all on I-25 south through Pueblo, Trinidad and Santa Fe. Mapping estimates for a car are about 8 hours 10 minutes, so plan two days in a motorhome. Denver International Airport is about 45 minutes from the depot.

  • Final approach: the fiesta's 2026 guide says to take I-25 north to Exit 233 (Alameda) or Exit 234 (Tramway) and follow the signs.
  • Arrive early: the RV page recommends checking in before 3pm on busy days and parks no RVs after dark, and the FAQ says crowds can top 80,000, with gates opening at 4:30am and 3pm.
  • Other pick-ups: Las Vegas is about 569 miles (916 km) from Cruise America in Henderson and 581 miles (936 km) from Travellers Autobarn, roughly 10 hours by car. Los Angeles is about 805 miles (1,296 km), roughly 14 hours. Cruise America's Albuquerque dealer on Central Ave NW is about 16 miles (26 km) from the park.
  • Altitude and weather: the FAQ notes the mile-high altitude and morning temperatures around 20 to 40°F (about -7 to 4°C), warming to 50 to 70°F (10 to 21°C) by noon, so pack layers.

8 day Balloon Fiesta RV trip from Denver

This plan covers the opening weekend with a hire from Wednesday 29 September to Wednesday 6 October 2027, and three nights in an official RV lot (the minimum). Drive times are mapping estimates for a car. Session times are from the 2026 schedule, so check the 2027 schedule before you go.

Day 1: Wednesday 29 September, Denver to Pueblo

Collect your motorhome in Frederick (Cruise America departures are normally between 1pm and 4pm), stock up on food and water and drive about 141 miles (227 km) south on I-25 to Pueblo, around 2 hours 40 minutes.

Day 2: Thursday 30 September, Pueblo to Santa Fe

Continue on I-25 over the New Mexico line to Santa Fe, about 278 miles (447 km) or 4 hours 50 minutes. Fill the fresh water tank and empty the waste tanks before the fiesta, as the lots have no dump station.

Day 3: Friday 1 October, check in at Balloon Fiesta Park

Drive the last 56 miles (91 km) to Albuquerque, about an hour, and check in at your RV lot early in the day. In 2026, pre-event check-in ran 8am to 6:45pm.

Day 4: Saturday 2 October, opening day

Walk or shuttle to the field before dawn. In 2026, Dawn Patrol was scheduled to launch at 6am and the Mass Ascension at 7am, when more than 500 balloons launch over about two hours.

Day 5: Sunday 3 October, Mass Ascension and Balloon Glow

Catch the morning launch, rest in the afternoon and return for the Balloon Glow, which the fiesta says runs on the first Sunday night and usually has the most balloons. Bring a torch for the walk back.

Day 6: Monday 4 October, last morning and drive north

Watch the morning session (there are no evening sessions Monday to Wednesday), then check out between 10am and 11:30am once flying ends. Drive about 243 miles (392 km) to Trinidad, roughly 4 hours 10 minutes.

Day 7: Tuesday 5 October, Trinidad to Denver

Drive about 225 miles (363 km) back towards Frederick, around 4 hours, and stay near the depot so you can return on time.

Day 8: Wednesday 6 October, return

Return the motorhome in the morning (Cruise America drop-offs are normally 9am to 11am), with the waste tank emptied to avoid a dump charge.

To see all nine days, extend the hire to Wednesday 13 October, book your RV site from Friday 1 to Monday 11 October, and stay for the Special Shape Rodeo, the Glowdeo on Thursday and Friday nights and the Night Magic Glow on the second Saturday.

Balloon Fiesta RV tips

  • Book the RV site before the RV. Every 2026 site sold out and the waitlist closed. The 2026 sale opened online on 28 January at 9am MST, so watch the RV page from January.
  • Arrive self-sufficient. Most lots are dry camping with no showers or dump station, and water fills and pumping cost US$50 each, so arrive with full water and empty tanks.
  • Choose an RV with a generator. Cruise America lists generators on its Compact, Standard and Large but not the Ultra Compact. Keep to the 80 decibel limit and the 10:30pm to 3:30am quiet hours.
  • Pack for cold dawns. Mornings are often 20 to 40°F (about -7 to 4°C), and gates open at 4:30am. Ask your rental brand whether the RV will be winterised, as Cruise America winterises RVs in cold locations from about mid October.
  • Budget for the drive. Cruise America charges mileage, so the Denver round trip adds roughly US$365 at 39 cents a mile. A pick-up from the Albuquerque dealer cuts that, but it is closed on weekends.
  • Leave the dog in the RV lot. Leashed pets are allowed in the RV lots, but dogs are not allowed in Balloon Fiesta Park, except service animals.
