The 2027 Sturgis Motorcycle Rally runs from Friday 6 to Sunday 15 August in Sturgis, South Dakota, and most visitors camp. In our live search on 19 October 2026 for 3 to 17 August 2027, Denver pick-ups started from US$159.91 a night for a Cruise America 25 ft motorhome. RV sites for the whole rally start at US$325 at the Sturgis Buffalo Chip and US$195 at the Pappy Hoel Campground beside the Full Throttle Saloon, plus admission for every person. Pick up in Denver, about 376 miles (605 km) and 7 hours from Sturgis, and book your site first.

Which rental brands suit the Sturgis Rally?

One brand returned vehicles in our live search from Denver for 3 to 17 August 2027: Cruise America. Salt Lake City, the next nearest CRG city, also returned Cruise America only. Cruise America does not publish a Sturgis-specific rental rule that we could find, so confirm your rally plans, campground and any towing in writing before you book.

  • Cruise America (Class C motorhomes): four sizes, all with a toilet, shower, fridge and automatic transmission: Ultra Compact 18 ft (sleeps 2), Compact 21 ft (sleeps 4), Standard 25 ft (sleeps 5) and Large 30 ft (sleeps 7). Self-contained motorhomes suit Sturgis well, because most rally campgrounds sell powered and dry RV sites rather than campervan pitches.
  • Bringing a motorcycle: Cruise America says towing is allowed on all its motorhome sizes. You supply your own tow bar, declare the tow before departure and stay within a 2,500 lb limit, and its FAQ lists a US$25 a night towing charge. Cruise America provides no collision or liability cover for the towed item. A hitch bike rack is free, but tell the depot at pick-up.
  • Pick up in the Black Hills: Cruise America also lists a rental center in Rapid City at 3465 Sturgis Road (phone (605) 791-5432), about 27 miles (44 km) from Sturgis. It did not appear in our live search, so ring it for rally-week availability.

What does Sturgis Rally RV hire cost?

Rates in US$ from our live Denver search on 19 October 2026 for a hire picking up Tuesday 3 August and returning Tuesday 17 August 2027 (14 nights). Prices are the nightly rates and totals shown in our live search on 19 October 2026.

  • Cruise America Standard 25 ft (sleeps 5): US$159.91 a night, US$2,401.65 total.
  • Cruise America Compact 21 ft (sleeps 4): US$165.52 a night, US$2,480.29 total.
  • Cruise America Large 30 ft (sleeps 7): US$166.42 a night, US$2,492.88 total.
  • Cruise America Ultra Compact 18 ft (sleeps 2): US$209.49 a night, US$3,095.79 total.
  • Salt Lake City, same dates: Cruise America from US$166.74 a night (Compact) to US$184.79 (Large), totals US$2,404.54 to US$2,657.17.

These rates leave out several costs:

  • Mileage: Cruise America's FAQ lists 39 cents a mile. Denver to Sturgis and back is about 750 miles (1,210 km) before any Black Hills touring.
  • Extras: the generator is US$3.50 an hour, a Personal Kit (bedding) US$75 per person and a Vehicle Provisioning Kit (kitchen) US$125, booked in advance.
  • Towing a motorcycle: US$25 a night plus your own tow bar.
  • Camping and passes: Buffalo Chip RV sites cost US$325 to US$1,690 for the rally plus a 10-day pass of US$350 each, and Pappy Hoel RV sites cost US$195 to US$1,395 plus a US$450 wristband each. See the camping section.
  • Insurance excess and one-way fees vary, so compare live totals for your dates.

Where can you camp in an RV at the Sturgis Rally?

The rally itself does not run a campground. RV camping is sold by private campgrounds around Sturgis, and the two biggest rally campgrounds publish 2027 prices. Both charge one price for the whole rally, need an admission pass or wristband for every person, and say sales are non-refundable.

Sturgis Buffalo Chip

  • Where: 20622 Fort Meade Way, about 6 miles (9 km) east of downtown Sturgis. Its 2027 passes run 6 to 15 August (10 days) or 2 to 15 August (14 days).
  • General RV sites: US$325 for a dry 25 by 50 ft site with no power or water, US$625 to US$949 for most sites with 30 or 50 amp power, US$1,295 for a 20 by 80 ft long pull-through in the South 40 and US$1,399 for a 50 amp asphalt site in Le Village. Prices include fees.
  • Reserved and VIP sites: reserved 30 or 50 amp sites in areas such as Stage Hill, Crazy Horse, Water Tower and Quarter Lane are US$849. Fenske Park VIP RV sites are US$1,690 and also need the US$1,690 Fenske Ultimate VIP pass.
  • Admission: a 10-day standard pass is US$350 and a 14-day pass US$470, with premium passes at US$525 and US$645. Every person using an RV site needs a pass.
  • Hookups and limits: dry sites can use a water fill service, and there are free showers. Stage Hill sites do not exceed 40 ft, Water Tower sites take RVs up to 50 ft, and some Crazy Horse sites only fit shorter rigs. Some areas have 50 amp outlets only, so bring a 30 amp adaptor. One camping unit per site, plus motorcycles or one other four-wheeled vehicle.

Pappy Hoel Campground at the Full Throttle Saloon

  • Where: 19942 SD Highway 79, Vale, on 600 acres below Bear Butte, north-east of Sturgis. A camping wristband includes Full Throttle Saloon concerts.
  • RV sites for 6 to 15 August 2027: US$195 for a no-services site, US$695 for 25 by 50 ft Bobber sites with 30 and 50 amp power, water and sewer, US$775 for 40 by 55 ft Iron Head and Shovel Head pull-throughs with power and water (first waste pump-out included), US$995 for large EVO and Pan Head pull-throughs with full sewer, and up to US$1,395 for Flat Head sites beside the stage.
  • Wristbands: US$450 per person for the official rally wristband, 6 to 15 August. Pre-rally RV nights are sold separately at US$30 with no services or US$50 with water and electric.
  • Rules: check-in is 7am to 8pm daily and the campground says it cannot park you after 8pm. Extra pump-outs are US$55, or US$100 for three. No rollovers or refunds.
  • Availability: on 19 October 2026 every Flat Head and Milwaukee 8 site was already sold out, along with many Iron Head and Pan Head sites.

Other campgrounds and Rapid City

  • Near town: Cruise America's rally guide says over a dozen campgrounds and RV parks sit within 15 miles of downtown, names Days End Campground and RV Park and Sturgis RV Park among the closest with full hookups, and warns sites are often reserved a year ahead.
  • Rapid City: about 29 miles (47 km) or 35 minutes south. Rapid City RV Park and Campground, 4110 Mount Rushmore Road, asks a 2-night deposit for Bike Week, charges 50 percent of the stay for cancellations within 31 days and offers no discounts during Sturgis.
  • Yard camping: the City of Sturgis updated its rules for camping at private homes in 2026, so if you book a yard or driveway spot, ask the host to confirm it meets the city's rules.

How do you get to Sturgis from Denver?

Cruise America's Denver depot is at 4180 Busch Place, Frederick, about 20 to 30 minutes from Denver International Airport. From there Sturgis is about 376 miles (605 km), and mapping estimates for a car are about 7 hours, so allow 8 to 9 hours in a motorhome with fuel stops, or split the drive over two days.

  • Route: I-25 north through Cheyenne, US 18 and 20 east to Lusk, then US 85 north through Wyoming into the Black Hills and on to Sturgis.
  • Depot hours: Denver opens 8am to 5pm Monday to Saturday from April to October and is closed on Sundays, so plan pick-up and return on a weekday or Saturday.
  • From Salt Lake City: the Cruise America depot at 4125 South State Street, Millcreek, is about 643 miles (1,036 km) or 11 hours 15 minutes by car from Sturgis, so allow two days each way.
  • From Rapid City: Cruise America's Rapid City rental center is about 27 miles (44 km) or 30 minutes from Sturgis.
  • Parking in town: in 2024 the City of Sturgis closed Main Street between Middle and 4th Street to all but motorcycles from 2am on the opening Friday to 2am the Monday after the rally, with motorcycle-only parking on Harley-Davidson Way and parts of Third Street. Leave the motorhome at your campground and ride, walk or use a shuttle into town.

15 day Sturgis Rally RV trip from Denver

This plan matches our search dates, Tuesday 3 to Tuesday 17 August 2027, and covers the whole rally. Drive times are mapping estimates for a car, so allow longer in a motorhome.

Day 1: Tuesday 3 August, Denver to Wyoming

Collect your motorhome in Frederick when the depot opens, stock up on food and water, and head north on I-25. Break the drive at an RV park in eastern Wyoming.

Day 2: Wednesday 4 August, into the Black Hills

Follow US 85 north into the Black Hills and check in to your campground before evening. Book pre-rally nights if you arrive before 6 August, because rally RV sites usually start on the opening day.

Day 3: Thursday 5 August, settle in

Set up, connect power and water, and explore Sturgis before the crowds peak. The Buffalo Chip runs early beach party days from 2 to 5 August.

Days 4 and 5: Friday 6 and Saturday 7 August, the rally opens

Ride or shuttle into Main Street for the opening weekend, vendors and live music, and catch concerts at your campground at night.

Day 6: Sunday 8 August, Spearfish Canyon

Ride the Spearfish Canyon Scenic Byway, about 20 miles one way from Spearfish to Cheyenne Crossing, past Bridal Veil Falls. Spearfish is about 20 miles (32 km) from Sturgis.

Day 7: Monday 9 August, Mount Rushmore and the tunnel roads

Sturgis Rally RV tips

  • Book your site before your RV. Many premium Pappy Hoel sites were already sold out in October 2026, and Cruise America says nearby parks are often reserved a year ahead.
  • Budget for passes, not just the site. Buffalo Chip and Pappy Hoel both need a pass or wristband for every person on top of the RV site, and sales are non-refundable.
  • Match your rig to the site. Check length, back-in or pull-through, sewer and 30 or 50 amp power before you pay. A 25 ft Cruise America Standard fits most listed sites.
  • Keep the motorhome off the tunnel roads. Needle's Eye Tunnel is 8 ft wide and 9 ft 9 in high, and the Iron Mountain Road tunnels top out at 11 ft 4 in high.
  • Plan the motorcycle. Declare any towing to Cruise America before departure, bring your own tow bar and stay under 2,500 lb.
  • Leave the RV parked in town. Main Street is motorcycle-only through the rally, so ride, walk or use a shuttle.
