About Mighty
Mighty Campers, usually just called Mighty, is the value brand of Tourism Holdings (thl), the group that also runs Apollo, Britz and maui. It grew out of thl's Backpacker Campervans brand, started in 1996, and was relaunched as Mighty around 2011. It rents from the same 13 depots as its sister brands in Australia and New Zealand.
Mighty's vans are typically 4 or more years old, and its MightyLITE range (HiLITE and DeLITE) is 6 or more years old, which keeps prices down. The range runs from the 2-berth Highball to the 6-berth Big Six, plus a 4WD camper in Australia. Every 2WD hire includes unlimited kilometres.
Is Mighty a good choice?
Mighty suits budget travellers, younger drivers and anyone who doesn't need a new vehicle. The Highball and Double Down can be hired from age 18, and the standard liability is lower than Apollo's or maui's. Its Google branch ratings average 4.5 out of 5 across about 4,500 reviews. If you want a newer van, compare Apollo or Britz.

Frequently asked questions
Who owns Mighty Campers?
Tourism Holdings (thl), the NZX and ASX-listed group that also runs Apollo, maui, Britz and Cheapa Campa. Mighty grew out of thl's Backpacker Campervans brand, which began in 1996 and was relaunched as Mighty around 2011.
Where are Mighty's depots?
In Australia Mighty has depots in Adelaide, Alice Springs, Brisbane, Broome, Cairns, Darwin, Hobart, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney. In New Zealand it has depots in Auckland, Christchurch and Queenstown, all with a free airport shuttle.
How much is the Mighty bond?
It depends on the van. In Australia the included liability is AU$3,500 for the Highball, Double Down, HiLITE and DeLITE, AU$5,000 for the Deuce, Deuce Plus, Double Up and Big Six, and AU$8,000 for the 4WD, and that amount is debited at pick-up. The High Road, from $42 a day, cuts it to $0 with no deposit for 2WD vans. In New Zealand the card is only authorised, not debited.
What is the difference between Mighty and Apollo?
They have the same owner and the same depots. Mighty is the value brand, with vans 4 or more years old and lower standard liability, while Apollo runs newer vehicles, including larger Euro-range motorhomes.
What is the cheapest Mighty camper?
The MightyLITE HiLITE, a 2-berth van 6 or more years old, sits in the lowest price tier for liability reduction. The Highball is the most basic of the standard range. Daily rates change with dates, so search below to compare.
Can you hire a Mighty camper at 18?
Yes, the Highball and Double Down can be hired by drivers aged 18 or over with a full licence. Other models need drivers aged 21 or over, and there is no upper age limit.
Do Mighty campers have a toilet and shower?
In Australia the Duo, Deuce, Deuce Plus, Double Up and Big Six do, while the Highball, Double Down, MightyLITE vans and 4WD do not. In New Zealand every model has a toilet, and the Deuce, Deuce Plus, Fortune, Double Up and Big Six add a shower.
Are Mighty campervans self-contained in New Zealand?
Mighty states certified self-containment for the NZ Highball, Double Down, HiLITE and DeLITE. The larger models have full bathrooms, but confirm the green warrant when you book if you plan to freedom camp.

Does Mighty pick up from the airport?
In New Zealand, yes: Auckland, Christchurch and Queenstown all run free airport shuttles. In Australia there are no transfers, though Hobart is a short walk from the terminal and Perth is near Redcliffe train station.
Can I take my dog in a Mighty camper?
Yes. Up to two registered dogs or cats can travel for a pet fee plus a $325 cleaning fee, and pet damage is not covered by liability reduction.
Is Hippie Camper now Mighty?
