About JUCY
JUCY, also known as JUCY Rentals, started in Auckland in 2001 and is known for its green and purple campervans. Since 2020 it has been owned by a group backed by NZ investment company Polar Capital, renamed Travvia in 2024, which also runs the Star RV motorhome brand. JUCY is not part of thl, the group behind Apollo, Britz, maui and Mighty.
JUCY rents converted minivans and Toyota Hiace hi-tops for 2 to 4 people, an older budget range called Chill'd by JUCY, and the 6-berth Big Kahuna motorhome. It has six depots in Australia and three at New Zealand airports, and every hire includes unlimited kilometres.
Is JUCY a good choice?
JUCY suits budget travellers, backpackers and younger drivers: you can hire from 18 on a full licence, an Australian P2 or a New Zealand restricted licence. Its Google branch ratings average 3.8 out of 5 across about 5,900 reviews, lower than the thl brands, and most vans are small and older, with few showers. If you want a bathroom or a newer vehicle, compare Apollo, Britz or maui.

JUCY campervan hire in Australia
JUCY's Australian fleet has seven models: the Coaster high-roof van, the Crib+ minivan with a rooftop tent, the Condo hi-top, the Chill'd Cloudbreak, Malibu and Sunseeker vans and the 6-berth Big Kahuna motorhome. Only the Big Kahuna has a shower.
JUCY now has six Australian depots, after closing Hobart, the Gold Coast and Darwin in 2025. One-way hires are allowed between selected branches, with the fee shown in your quote. Tasmania is still allowed by ferry, but on-road support there is limited.

Frequently asked questions
Who owns JUCY?
JUCY is part of Travvia, the new name of JUCY Group, which also owns Star RV. NZ investment company Polar Capital took majority control when it bought the Australian and New Zealand rental business out of receivership in November 2020. JUCY is not part of thl.
Where are JUCY's depots?
In Australia JUCY has depots in Adelaide, Brisbane, Cairns, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney. In New Zealand it has depots near Auckland, Christchurch and Queenstown airports, all with a free on-demand shuttle. The Hobart, Gold Coast and Darwin branches closed in 2025.
How much is the JUCY bond?
It depends on the excess option and the van. With no cover the bond equals the excess: $3,000 for the Crib, Crib+ and Cloudbreak, $5,000 for the Coaster and most hi-tops, and $7,500 for the Big Kahuna. Essentials cuts it to $1,500 ($2,500 for the Big Kahuna) and Comprehensive to $0, although debit-card payers always have a $300 bond.
Can I hire a JUCY under 21?
Yes. JUCY rents to drivers from 18 up to 75 on a full licence, an Australian P2 or a New Zealand restricted licence. A young driver surcharge of $5 a day can apply to drivers aged 18 to 21, and learner and P1 licences are not accepted.
What is the difference between the JUCY Condo and the Chaser?
Both are Toyota Hiace hi-tops of the same size. The Condo sleeps four with a toilet but no shower and can take child seats. The Chaser, in New Zealand only, sleeps three, adds a fixed shower and can't take child seats. Both are certified self-contained in New Zealand.
Which JUCY campervans are self-contained in New Zealand?
The Condo, Chaser, Sundaze, Sunseeker and Big Kahuna. The Crib and Cloudbreak are not, so you need a campground or approved site overnight.
Do JUCY campervans have a toilet and shower?
Only the Chaser, Sundaze and Big Kahuna have a shower. The Coaster, Condo and Sunseeker have a toilet but no shower, and the Crib, Crib+ and Cloudbreak have neither.
Does JUCY include unlimited kilometres?
Yes, on every vehicle in both countries. In New Zealand the diesel Big Kahuna pays road user charges of 8 cents per km.
Does JUCY pick up from the airport?
In New Zealand, yes: a free on-demand shuttle runs at Auckland, Christchurch and Queenstown, so call the branch once you have your bags. In Australia there is no shuttle, so take a taxi or rideshare.
Can I take my dog in a JUCY?
In selected vans, yes: up to two dogs for $299 per dog per booking, booked in advance. Assistance animals are allowed in every vehicle.
What is Chill'd by JUCY?
JUCY's budget range of older vans in retro colours: the Cloudbreak, Malibu, Sundaze, Sunseeker and the 6-berth Big Kahuna. The layouts follow JUCY's own models, so the Cloudbreak is like the Crib, the Sunseeker like the Condo and the Sundaze like the Chaser.
Is JUCY still in the USA?
No. JUCY USA was left out of the 2020 sale and no longer rents in Los Angeles, San Francisco or Las Vegas. JUCY now rents only in Australia and New Zealand.
