About Euro Campers

Euro Campers is a budget campervan rental brand in New Zealand, with depots near Auckland and Christchurch airports, run by Eurocampers Limited. Since May 2026 it has been wholly owned by GlobalCampers, which is half-owned by Lucky Rentals, making it a sister brand of Lucky Rentals and Happy Campers. The former Budgy Campers and Heron Campers websites now redirect to Euro Campers. It has no link to the Euro Camper models rented by Apollo.

Euro Campers rents six models, all certified self-contained with a fixed toilet: Toyota Hiace vans from the Euro Vista for two to the 4-berth Euro Escape and Euro Voyager, the Euro Star, an LDV van with a shower, and the Euro Paradise, a 7 m Renault Master motorhome with a shower. Most vehicles are older, built between 2004 and 2020, and every hire includes unlimited kilometres.

Is Euro Campers a good choice?

Euro Campers suits budget travellers who want a self-contained van for freedom camping: there is no minimum or maximum driver age, and debit cards are accepted for the bond. Its two Google listings average 3.6 out of 5 across about 130 reviews, with praise for quick handovers and friendly staff and complaints about worn vans, toilet leaks and damp smells. The standard bond of NZ$4,000 is higher than at Lucky Rentals or Happy Campers, so compare those or Mighty on price and cover.

Euro Campers rents six self-contained models. The Euro Vista is a low-roof Toyota Hiace for couples with a convertible bed and a chilly bin, and the Euro Sky is a manual high-roof Hiace with a small child's roof bunk. The Euro Escape and the larger diesel Euro Voyager sleep four in two doubles, the Euro Star is an LDV van with a shower for two plus a child, and the Euro Paradise is a 2020 Renault Master motorhome for two with a shower, heating and solar.

Bedding packs cost NZ$25 per hire and snow chains NZ$50. One-way hires run between Auckland and Christchurch, with the fee shown in your quote, and longer hires earn a duration discount. The Interislander and Bluebridge ferries are allowed, so book ahead from December to March.

Good to know

  • Road user charges: the diesel Euro Voyager, Euro Star and Euro Paradise pay NZ road user charges by distance after the hire
  • Roads: you can drive anywhere except beaches, sand and water, but driving on gravel or unsealed roads voids all excess cover

Frequently asked questions

Who owns Euro Campers?

Since May 2026 Euro Campers has been wholly owned by GlobalCampers Limited, which is half-owned by Lucky Rentals Limited. That makes it a sister brand of Lucky Rentals and Happy Campers.

Is Euro Campers the same as Apollo's Euro Camper?

No. Apollo rents campervan models called Euro Camper, Euro Deluxe and similar names, but they have nothing to do with Euro Campers, the New Zealand rental company covered on this page.

Where do I pick up a Euro Campers van?

In Auckland at 3/13 Aintree Avenue, Airport Oaks, about 4 km from the airport, or at the Christchurch depot near Christchurch Airport. Confirm the pick-up address when you book, especially in Christchurch.

Is there a minimum age to rent from Euro Campers?

No, there is no minimum or maximum age, and the price is the same for every driver. You need a valid licence and must drive within its conditions.

How much is the Euro Campers bond?

NZ$4,000 on standard Explore cover, held as a pre-authorisation on a credit or debit card. Paying NZ$20, NZ$35 or NZ$50 a day cuts it to NZ$2,500, NZ$1,000 or NZ$0, with a NZ$250 hold on the top option.

Can I pay the Euro Campers bond with a debit card?

Yes, Euro Campers accepts debit cards for both payment and the bond, which is held rather than charged. The hold can take 10 to 30 business days to drop off, depending on your bank.

Are Euro Campers vans self-contained?

Yes, all six models are certified self-contained with a fixed toilet, which you need for most freedom camping sites in New Zealand. Local council and DOC rules still apply.

Which Euro Campers vans have a shower?

Only the Euro Star, an LDV van for two plus a child, and the Euro Paradise, a Renault Master motorhome for two. Both have hot water as well as a toilet.

Does Euro Campers have an airport shuttle?

Yes, a free shuttle runs on pick-up and drop-off days; call 0800 887 701 to arrange it. In Auckland it collects only from the International terminal, while in Christchurch it serves both terminals.

Is there a one-way fee from Auckland to Christchurch?

Yes. The terms summary lists NZ$750 for Auckland to Christchurch, and the northbound fee isn't published, so check your quote for the exact amount.

Are Euro Campers vans automatic?

All are automatic except the Euro Sky, a high-roof Toyota Hiace with a manual gearbox.

How old are Euro Campers vans?

Fairly old: most are Toyota Hiace vans built between 2004 and 2018 with later refits. The Euro Star is a 2016 to 2017 LDV and the Euro Paradise a 2020 Renault Master.
