About Cheapa Campa
Cheapa Campa began as the budget brand of Apollo Motorhome Holidays, and its website says it has offered campervan holidays since 2008. It came under Tourism Holdings (thl) when Apollo merged with thl in 2022, so it now sits alongside Mighty, Apollo, Britz and maui.
Cheapa Campa no longer appears to rent vans of its own. Searches on its booking site in late 2026 returned only Mighty, Apollo, Britz and maui vehicles from the same 13 depots in Australia and New Zealand, and Cheapa's own rental terms have been withdrawn. thl has not announced a formal change, and the Cheapa website still shows older vehicle pages.
What should I book instead?
For Cheapa-style prices, look at Mighty, thl's budget brand. Its older vans are now the cheapest results on Cheapa's own booking site, and its range is similar in size and layout to the old Cheapa line-up. If you want a newer van, compare Apollo or Britz, which pick up from the same branches.

Cheapa Campa in Australia: what you can book now
Cheapa Campa's Australian range used to run from the 2-berth Hitop to the 6 Berth motorhome, plus a 4WD camper. Those vans are no longer offered, so the vehicles below are Mighty's, thl's budget fleet and the cheapest results on Cheapa's booking site today.
The old Cheapa 2 Berth, 4 Berth and 6 Berth are similar in size and layout to the Mighty Deuce, Double Up and Big Six, and the old Cheapa 4WD Camper to the Mighty 4WD. Apollo, Britz and maui vans can be collected from the same depots.

- Mighty, the budget fleet behind the cheapest results, has vans for drivers from 18
- Bookings made through the Cheapa site still show Qantas Points
Cons
- No Cheapa-branded vans to book
- Cheapa's own rental terms have been withdrawn, so you rent on the booked brand's terms
- The Cheapa website still shows older vehicle pages and past holiday dates
- Very few Google reviews for Cheapa's own branch listings
Good to know
- What you book: a Mighty, Apollo, Britz or maui vehicle, on that brand's rental terms

Frequently asked questions
Who owns Cheapa Campa?
Tourism Holdings (thl), the NZX and ASX-listed group that also runs Mighty, Apollo, Britz and maui. Cheapa Campa started as Apollo's budget brand and joined thl when Apollo merged with thl in 2022.
Can you still rent a Cheapa Campa van?
Not as a separate fleet. In late 2026 the Cheapa booking site shows only Mighty, Apollo, Britz and maui vehicles from the same depots, and Cheapa's own rental terms are no longer available. Book one of those brands instead.
What has replaced Cheapa Campa?
In practice, Mighty. Its older vans are now the cheapest results on Cheapa's own booking site, and its Deuce, Double Up, Big Six and 4WD are similar to the old Cheapa 2 Berth, 4 Berth, 6 Berth and 4WD Camper.
Is Cheapa Campa the same as Mighty?
They have the same owner and the same depots. Mighty still runs its own budget fleet, while Cheapa Campa now works as a booking site that also shows Apollo, Britz and maui vans.
Where are Cheapa Campa's depots?
At thl's shared branches: Adelaide, Alice Springs, Brisbane, Broome, Cairns, Darwin, Hobart, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney in Australia, and Auckland, Christchurch and Queenstown in New Zealand.
Can I hire a Cheapa Campa at 18?
Cheapa's old Hitop and Endeavour took drivers from 18. Today the closest options are Mighty's Highball and Double Down, which drivers aged 18 or over can hire. Most other vans need drivers aged 21 or over.
How much is the Cheapa Campa bond?
It depends on the brand and van you book. For example, Mighty debits AU$3,500 at pick-up for its basic Australian vans unless you buy liability reduction, while in New Zealand the card is only authorised, not debited.
Does Cheapa Campa pick up from the airport?
In New Zealand, yes: Auckland, Christchurch and Queenstown run a free airport shuttle, on request in Queenstown. In Australia there are no transfers, though the Hobart branch is a short walk from the terminal.
Is Cheapa Campa the same as Apollo?
It began as Apollo's budget brand and its website still runs on Apollo's platform, but Apollo rents newer vans. Both are now thl brands and share depots.
