About Campervan Village

Campervan Village is a budget campervan brand in Australia and New Zealand. Australian hires are with Campervan Village Pty Ltd, registered in Queensland in 2016, and New Zealand hires are with Campervan Country Limited. It rents from 11 depots in Australia and 3 in New Zealand, and those depots and its vehicle models are the same ones used by Wicked Campers, which trades under a separate company name.

In Australia the range runs from a small hatchback with a rooftop tent and painted Mystery Machine vans to the better-equipped Johnny Feelgood and Alice Chillgood and three 4WD campers, the D5, Grip and Desert Sands. New Zealand has three certified self-contained 2-berth vans. No model has a shower, no Australian model has a toilet, and hires include 250 km a day unless you add unlimited kilometres.

Is Campervan Village a good choice?

Campervan Village suits budget travellers and young drivers who want a low daily rate and can do without a bathroom, with hires from 18 and depots in remote spots such as Broome, Exmouth and Alice Springs. Its Google ratings are low, about 2.7 out of 5 from roughly 110 reviews in Australia and 1.7 from 19 in New Zealand, and Trustpilot shows 3.3 from about 150 reviews. Reviewers like the prices and easy pick-up but raise cleanliness, worn gear and slow bond refunds, so compare Spaceships or Mighty if ratings matter to you.

Australia

Campervan Village hire in Australia

Campervan Village's 11 Australian models are supplied or similar. The cheapest is the Budget Mini-Camper, a manual Hyundai i20 or similar with a rooftop tent, followed by the painted Mystery Machine vans for two or three, the plain Toyota Estima-based Aventus 2, and the Johnny Feelgood and Alice Chillgood with fridge drawers and solar. None has a toilet or shower, and the 2WD vans have no rear seats, so no child seats.

The 4WD range is the 2-berth D5 Adventure Camper on a Mitsubishi Delica and the 5-berth Grip and Desert Sands, Nissan Navara dual cabs with two rooftop tents, for drivers 21 and over. One-way minimum hires run from 5 to 30 days by route, and the relocation fee shows in your quote.

Frequently asked questions

Is Campervan Village the same as Wicked Campers?

Campervan Village uses the same depots and the same van models as Wicked Campers in Australia and New Zealand, but it trades through separate companies. Australian hires are with Campervan Village Pty Ltd and New Zealand hires with Campervan Country Limited.

What are Campervan Village's reviews like?

Mixed to low. Google ratings average about 2.7 out of 5 in Australia and 1.7 in New Zealand from small review counts, and Trustpilot shows 3.3 from about 150 reviews. Reviewers like the prices and easy pick-up but report cleanliness issues, worn gear and slow bond refunds.

How much is the Campervan Village bond?

It depends on the cover: AU$7,500 for 2WD or AU$9,500 for 4WD with no cover, AU$500 for 2WD on LR One or Cover One, and nil for 2WD Cover Plus paid by credit card. 4WD bonds with cover are AU$2,000 to AU$5,000, and WA and NT depots take at least AU$500.

Does Campervan Village include unlimited kilometres?

Not by default. Hires include 250 km a day, and unlimited kilometres costs AU$25 a day for 2WD or AU$35 for 4WD, included in 4WD Cover Plus. From Darwin, Perth or Adelaide it needs a 7 to 10 day minimum hire.

How old do I need to be to hire from Campervan Village?

You need to be 18 for a 2WD campervan, with an under-21 surcharge, and 21 for a 4WD camper. The maximum age is 75.

Can I do a one-way hire from Broome with Campervan Village?

Yes, to Perth, Darwin, Cairns, Brisbane, Melbourne or Sydney, with minimum hires from 10 days depending on the route. Seasonal one-way deals from Broome appear in the deals section when they run.

Do Campervan Village vans have a toilet or shower?

No model has a shower, and no Australian model has a toilet. The three New Zealand vans are certified self-contained, which requires a toilet on board.

Can I freedom camp in a Campervan Village van in New Zealand?

Yes, all three New Zealand models are certified self-contained, which council freedom camping rules require. Local bylaws still apply.

Does Campervan Village have 4WD campers?

Yes, in Australia only: the 2-berth D5 on a Mitsubishi Delica and the 5-berth Grip and Desert Sands, Nissan Navara dual cabs with two rooftop tents. Drivers must be 21 or over, beaches are banned and 4WD-only tracks need written permission.

What are Campervan Village's opening hours?

Branches open 9am to 3pm Monday to Friday and 9am to 11am on Saturday, and close on Sunday. After-hours pick-up (AU$195) or return (AU$100) can be arranged.

Does Campervan Village have an airport shuttle?

No, there are no airport shuttles at any branch. Take a taxi, rideshare or public transport; the Auckland, Christchurch and Queenstown depots are a few kilometres from their airports.

Is bedding included with Campervan Village?

No, bring your own sleeping bags, pillows and towels. Linen packs can be added for the Johnny Feelgood, Alice Chillgood, D5 and Desert Sands.
